Channel Nine reportedly trying to poach Channel Seven star after Brooke Boney's resignation

Brooke announced last month that she would be leaving the show to study at Oxford University.

Following Brooke Boney's shock announcement that she is leaving Channel Nine and The Today Show to pursue her dream of studying overseas, the network seems to have been working hard to secure her replacement.

And the network has reportedly found a suitable candidate in Channel Seven's Katie Brown, who works on rival breakfast show Sunrise.

"Nine don't like to take no for an answer and have had Katie on their radar for months," an insider reportedly told Woman's Day. "They've been waiting to pounce when the time was right, so when Brooke pulled the pin last week, the word was that everyone agrees - It's time to strike on Katie."

The source added that part of Nine's plan to win the breakfast ratings war was to poach one of Seven's brightest talents.

"Katie will be good at keeping Karl under control, especially with her knockabout humour," the source said. "She doesn't mind having a good old laugh at herself – and right now that's something that is very much needed at Today."

Brooke announces she's leaving the Today Show

Brooke announced last month that she would be leaving Australia to study at Oxford University in London later this year.

"Guys, I have some very big news for you," she told viewers. "I have been offered a place at Oxford University later this year, which means I’ll be leaving the show after the Olympics.

"I don’t want to go into too much right now because there’ll be plenty of time for goodbyes and thank yous, but I just wanted to share that good/bad news with you all this morning."

She added that it's always been a dream to study overseas, and she believes now is the right time, but she won't be saying goodbye until September.

The proud Gamilaroi Gomeroi woman shared that she will be studying a Master of Public Policy, with the Nine network telling Yahoo Lifestyle that it's a wonderful opportunity for the presenter.

"I settled on the Masters of Public Policy because I thought this is sort of what fits best with my journalistic career thus far," Brooke said. "I thought if I don't do this now, then I'm probably never going to. I am at that age where if I leave now and go and study and come back, I'll still only be 38."

"That still leaves plenty of time to sort of carve out the next part of what my career is," she added. "I'd love to be able to come back and still do things with Nine and figure out what that looks like."
