Today fans rally around Brooke Boney after huge announcement: 'So proud'
The TV presenter has received plenty of congratulatory messages after sharing the news live on-air.
Fans of The Today Show have sent their well wishes to Brooke Boney after she announced live on-air on Friday morning that she will be leaving the breakfast show at the end of the year.
The beloved TV presenter, 36, told viewers that she will be moving to England to study at The University of Oxford, which has always been a dream of hers.
Following the announcement, Brooke’s famous friends took to social media to congratulate her on the exciting news.
“This is huge! So proud of you,” Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco commented, followed by A Current Affair’s Laila McKinnon who added, “Could not be more proud! Luckily you’re used to hanging out with intellectual giants like… Karl”.
“Congratulations, Brooke! Oxford will be lucky to have you,” ABC News Breakfast host Michael Rowland replied.
“No no no - but proud of you my smartest friend,” Roxy Jacenko shared, while Melissa Doyle said, “Big hugs for your next adventure!”.

Viewers also agreed she would be sorely missed on the breakfast show, with one fan writing: “We are all going to miss you. You are an inspiration.”
“You make the sun shine every day as we watch you here. Congratulations, good luck,” another added, with someone else commenting, “Congratulations Brooke we will miss you. Such a wonderful opportunity for you”.
“Good luck Brooke. Love watching you on The Today Show. You have come a long way. I remember your first show you were nervous and look at you now. Very confident at everything you do. Best wishes in your studies,” a different user remarked.
Brooke announces her shock resignation
Brooke teared up on Friday morning as she announced that she would be leaving Today after the Olympics.
“Guys, I have some very big news for you this morning,” she began. “I have been offered a place at Oxford University later this year, which means I’ll be leaving the show after the Olympics.
“I don’t want to go into too much right now because there’ll be plenty of time for goodbyes and thank yous, but I just wanted to share that good/bad news with you all this morning.”

Brooke went on to share that it’s always been a dream of hers to study at an overseas university and now feels like the right time to take that step.
“I’m so grateful to come in here every day and I love you all so much, so it’s made the decision really difficult,” she added. “But it just means that you’ll all have to plan trips to the UK to come and visit me.”
She also took to Instagram after announcing the news to post a throwback photo of herself in Oxford alongside the caption: “Thanks for all of the wonderful messages. I’ll get around to replying to everyone over the weekend and we’ll do all the teary stuff when I leave in September.”
What is Brooke studying at Oxford University?
Brooke shared on Today that she will be studying a Master of Public Policy when she attends Oxford University.
“I thought this is sort of what fits best with my journalistic career thus far,” she explained. “I thought if I don’t do this now, then I’m probably never going to. I am at that age where if I leave now and go and study and come back, I’ll still only be 38.”
Brooke joined Today in 2019 as an entertainment presenter before becoming the show’s news presenter in January 2023. Before this, she worked as a political correspondent for NITV and was the newsreader on Triple J from 2016 to 2018.
She also graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) in 2014.
