Celebrity tributes flow after One Direction singer Liam Payne's death

One Direction singer Liam Payne's death at 31 has sent shockwaves around the world, with tributes pouring in on social media. The star died in Argentina after falling from his hotel balcony.

Police were called before the incident and found him dead. They confirmed his death with a statement that read: "Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo."

Tributes have poured in online for the singer, with Paris Hilton writing on X, "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing 😢 Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. 🙏 RIP my friend 🥺."

Charlie Puth took to his Instagram stories to share a statement that read: "I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he's gone..."

He shared a video of himself with Liam, adding, "I am so upset right now, may he rest in peace."

Zedd, who collaborated with Liam on the track 'Get Low' wrote, "RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking … 💔."

Meanwhile, Harry Styles' mum, Anne Twist, simply posted a picture of the broken heart emoji on Instagram with the caption 'Just a boy.'

Spotify also shared a tribute that read, "We are deeply saddened by the news of Liam Payne's passing. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the many fans who loved and supported him."

MTV added, "We’re deeply saddened to learn of Liam Payne’s tragic passing today. During this difficult time, our hearts remain with his family, loved ones, and fans."

Dan Wootton shared photos of himself with Liam, writing, "What an appalling tragedy and waste of life. Liam Payne was always the most mature member of One Direction in those heady early days. He was a joy to be around. The music industry is truly evil. My thoughts to his poor family, band mates and fans who will be devastated."

DJ Joel Corry spoke to The Kyle and Jackie O Show, saying, "In the summer of 2023, I played Soccer Aid with him, which is like a charity football match in the UK. And we spent a few days together because he was playing with me, and it was the first time I'd ever met him.

"And he was so fun on the trip, and we had such a good time and we hung out together. And he was a really nice guy. And this is why when I heard the news just now, I couldn't believe it took my breath away. I was like, oh my God."

Fans have been left completely heartbroken, with one writing, "As a kid who grew up watching him and 1D, this is so sad. RIP Liam Payne."

"My heart breaks for [his son] Bear and [mother of his son] Cheryl [Cole]. He was truly an Icon at such a young age," another said.

"From auditioning on X-Factor to becoming part of one of the biggest boy bands in the world, Liam Payne’s journey has been nothing short of incredible," a third said. "Thank you for the music and memories."

"Such a tragic loss. Sending strength to his loved ones during this difficult time," someone else said.

He is father to son Bear, who was born in 2017, from his previous relationship with singer Cheryl Cole.

The singer gave a rare update about his son Bear in August this year, after he celebrated his 31st birthday, saying, "I didn't get any dad socks yet thought. I'm going to speak to my son in a little bit which I'm really excited about. Bless him. He's getting so big now.

“He's a big boy and he looks like a mini-me. As if we needed any more me in the world.”
