‘The Big Bang Theory’ Is Nielsen’s “Most-Binged” Streaming Title Of 2024
The Big Bang Theory finished 2024 as the year’s “most-binged title” in streaming, according to a new report from Nielsen.
The sitcom averaged 265.5 episodes per viewer on Max, the measurement firm said, or 29.1 billion minutes of total viewing. The long-running former CBS series has 281 total episodes available for streaming.

Coming in at No. 7 overall among this year’s top streaming titles, Big Bang saw 58% of its watch time accounted for by adults 18 to 49.
The “average episodes per viewer” stat refers to the amount of time (with episodes lasting at least 20 minutes each) spent viewing the show. It does not indicate the number of unique episodes seen by each viewer.
Nielsen said it compiled the “most-binged” ranking by evaluating streaming titles with libraries of at least 50 episodes. It counted only the series whose viewers had spent at least one episode’s worth of time (20 minutes) with the show.
“While half-hour programs tend to be more binge-able, the level of dedication from audiences in viewing to programs across the board was astonishing,” the measurement firm observed in its report. (Nielsen’s ranking of new originals in 2024, meanwhile, included Fallout and Nobody Wants This, while Bluey, Bridgerton and Moana set the pace among overall viewing.)
Runner-up in the “most-binged” category was American Dad!, with 175.3 episodes per viewer on Hulu. A number of adult animated series fared well in 2024, with Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons and South Park all finishing in the top 30 for total minutes.
For Max, the Nielsen shoutout is an encouraging sign. When it launched as HBO Max in 2020, the service had no advertising tier and no programming from Discovery, which merged with WarnerMedia in 2022. Today, the ad tier is a major focus for Max, with library sitcoms like Big Bang or Friends fitting squarely into that strategy. Warner Bros. Discovery had 110.5 total streaming subscribers (with Max the majority) as of September 30.
