And Just Like That - the divisive Sex and the City reboot - has become one of those shows that will go down in pop culture lore as the most complained about, yet most watched series of all time. I, personally, have watched each episode with a grimace and the help of a stiff drink - yet impatiently wait for the next episode to drop.

Sure, the writers seemed to forget the essence of the very characters they had created (looking at you, Miranda Hobbes) and yes, they tried too hard to transform the original show's whiteness into wokeness with disastrous results, but we still show up for our big city gals because, well...I'm not sure why but we just do.

With filming for the third season now underway in New York, fans have excitedly been on the lookout for any clues about what the next instalment may hold for Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and their supporting crew of buddies such as Seema (Sarita Choudhury), Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) and Anthony (Mario Cantone).

This past week, the AJLT fandom was sent into overdrive as photos emerged of Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) walking hand in hand, clad entirely in black. This was a confusing detail given Aidan ditched his on-again, off-again love for "five years" at the end of last season to go and raise his youngest kiddo.

Naturally, viewers started speculating away suggesting that maybe the third season might take place five years in the future at a time when Aidan and Carrie have finally reunited.

Others theorised that the show had killed off Steve (David Eigenberg) and that the couple, plus all the other characters, were dressed in black because it was his funeral.

Look, after how dirty they did poor Steve in the previous seasons by turning him into a bumbling geriatric who forgot where his wife's clitoris was, I'd say being killed off would be a blessing.

Fan theories aside, there was one thing that eager viewers could not get past - and that was the photos from the set of Aidan SMOKING A CIGARETTE.

Now, while smoking is inherently gross and, obviously, very bad for you, the big issue with the sight of "Country Lurch" puffing away had more to do with the fact that his character was so anti-smoking that he said he wouldn't date Carrie back in the season three episode 'No Ifs, Ands or Butts' when he found out our girl was as addicted to her Marlboro Lights as she was dating toxic men and being a shitty friend.

"Aidan. Smoking. No" one fan wrote on a Reddit thread.

"Yeah are they filming or what’s happening here? He was a major anti-smoker," another agreed.

"Now, now Aidan, suddenly we got no problem with those cigs! First the cigar, now this," a third said.

"Is this John or Aidan smoking?!," yet another enquired.

"Wait, wait, wait. Aidan is smoking? 😂," someone else wrote to which I wanted to reply - "Yes, smoking HOT" (don't worry, I refrained.)

So was it Aidan or John who was sucking down the cancer sticks?

Some fans seemed to think that John Corbett was a smoker in real life while others suggested that it is something he does in between takes just to mess with fans.

"He does this between takes to mess with ppl. He always has an unlit cigarette. You can google images and he tends to have one in his mouth," one person offered.

"There are pics of him smoking from last season too. I think John Corbett is smoking, not Aidan," said another.

"Yeah, I am inclined to agree. He was on something else I watched and he was a smoker in it, and it was too natural (most non-smokers tend to….not act right with it)," someone replied.

Regardless of whether he was smoking as Aidan or as John, it could have been worse. After all, given the show's desperation to be 'modern' and 'with the times', he could have been vaping.
