Amy Schumer Recounts Cringe-Worthy Bradley Cooper Interaction

As Amy Schumer recently reminded fans, Hollywood stars are not immune to making—or being on the receiving end of—friendly interactions that unexpectedly turn cringe-worthy.

The stand-up comedian relayed one such interaction while visiting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Schumer appeared on the late-night talk show to promote her new movie, Kinda Pregnant, a comedy dropping on Netflix on Feb. 5.

The topic of unexpected celebrity interactions came up as Schumer and host Jimmy Fallon discussed a star-studded dinner they recently enjoyed with a group of other comedians that included Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller and Judd Apatow, among others.

After Schumer reminisced over “doing bits” with the other comedians, Fallon urged her to share with his audience a separate anecdote that involved Bradley Cooper. Schumer said she “ran into” the A Star Is Born actor just “this week” and initiated a customary greeting—“You know, ‘How are you?’”—when he started speaking about an age-related milestone that he reached on Jan. 5.

“He said, you know, ‘I turned 50 this year,’” Schumer recalled. “And he goes, ‘You 50?’”

The question appeared to have thrown Schumer, who turns 44 in June. “I mean, ‘cause, whatever,” she said, spreading her arms out in front of her as she tried to explain the complications she faced in composing an appropriate response to Cooper’s query. “I’m 43. But, you know, I’m like, ‘I will be 50, but I’m not 50 yet.’”

Fallon bent over his desk in a fit of laughter as the Trainwreck star detailed her reaction to the uncomfortable exchange. “No, he made a mistake,” Fallon said of Cooper.

“You know,” Schumer continued, "it was just like, ‘Yeah, no, I’m not, Bradley. But thank you for thinking of me.”
