AMC Stubs A-List Hikes Monthly Fee, Increases Movie Visits to Four Per Week

AMC Theatres is hiking the price of Stubs A-List, the cinema chain’s monthly movie subscription membership. But film fanatics are getting a greater value for their money, too. They’ll receive an additional weekly reservation, allowing them to see up to four movies instead of the current allotment of three per week.

Starting on May 7, Stubs A-List will cost $27.99 per month in all AMC theaters nationwide or $25.99 per month in every location other than New York and California. Previously, the monthly plan was $24.95 for all AMC theaters and $22.95 for every location other than California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. AMC is also lowering the minimum age requirement so moviegoers at least 13 years or older can purchase an A-list subscription. As always, these tickets include premium formats including Imax and Dolby Cinema at no extra charge.

“This is our first price increase in years, and even so, A-List is still an incredible bargain,” the company’s CEO Adam Aron wrote in a note to subscribers.

AMC’s Stubs A-List was launched in 2018 and, at the time, charged customers $19.95 per month to see up to three movies a week. The subscription model started as a rival to MoviePass, which offered a too-good-to-be-sustainable $9.95-per-month subscription for one movie per day. MoviePass sputtered in spectacular fashion and filed for bankruptcy before reemerging in 2023 with new ownership and a very different pricing model.

“Even with this necessary price adjustment, in most cases the cost of an A-List membership will be less than seeing two movies per month as a non-member, especially so if you see a movie in our premium formats and/or buy your tickets online,” Aron’s statement continued. “We appreciate your dedication to watching movies on the big screens of AMC with our soon-to-be even better benefits of an A-List membership.”
