‘Almost Paradise’ In Works At Fox; Brooke Shields & David Spade Poised To Star In ‘Blue Lagoon’-Esque Sitcom From Danny Zuker & Kapital
EXCLUSIVE: Brooke Shields is ready to revisit the setting that made her a global star in the 1980 movie The Blue Lagoon, with SNL alum David Spade joining her for the ride. Fox is developing Almost Paradise, a multi-camera sitcom from comedy veteran Danny Zuker (Modern Family) and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
Written by Zuker, Almost Paradise is described as The Blue Lagoon meets Gilligan’s Island. Its logline reads: Just your everyday, normal married couple facing all the everyday, normal challenges of being stranded on a desert Island for decades. Think Blue Lagoon, the family sitcom.

The idea originated from a general meeting between Shields and Kaplan. The two then approached Spade, on whose NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me! Shields had guest starred and Zuker had worked for two seasons as consulting producer/co-executive producer.
Shields and Spade have no deals for Almost Paradise, which has a two-script order from Fox, but have been involved in the development and present at pitches. If the project is greenlighted, the intention is for them to star as the lead characters whose names are Brooke and David, subject to availability. Spade, Kaplan and Zuker have existing relationships with Fox where Spade recently hosted game show Snake Oil while Kaplan executive produced and Zuker was a consulting producer on animated comedy HouseBroken. Like Spade, Shields also has headlined an NBC multi-camera sitcom, in her case Suddenly Susan.
Executive produced by Zuker and Kaplan, Almost Paradise is part of an effort by Fox to get back into the multi-camera space after a string of single-camera comedy series over the last couple of years, most recently flagship Animal Control and freshman Going Dutch.
Zuker is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
