We've all been there - in the throes of some serious cravings for takeaway, too tired to have to think about an equally tasty alternative and dangerously close to having a hangry breakdown. Luckily Aldi shoppers are coming to the rescue with the scoop on a $5 dinner item that they not only say is freaking delicious, but can feed the whole family.

"This butter chicken is by far the best I've ever had," one Aldi customer wrote in a Facebook group dedicated to the grocery chain and its fans. She included a photo of the Curry Up Fresh Simmer Sauce in her post and it very quickly started to gain traction as other shoppers shared their love of the Indian meal.

"Agree my kids love it. We use it for quick dinners. I also add cooked potatoes and carrots in it to beef it up," one person mentioned.

Another shopper revealed that they like to pair the Butter Chicken simmer sauce with another cult Aldi item writing, "Agree! we love it. And have it with Roti bread, from the freezer section."

Plenty of other people agreed that the simmer sauce is "the best", "absolutely delicious" and "a family favourite."

Speaking of families - the original poster assured their intrigued group members, "And if anyone was interested, it easily feeds a family of 4."

And for those who were keen to know if the sauce could be used in the slow cooker (the true hero of winter), the answer was a resounding yes!

In a fascinating twist that I truly could not have seen coming, one crafty customer revealed that this very sauce is what she uses in - wait for it - BUTTER CHICKEN LASAGNE! Who knew that such a thing existed (well, the lady who commented about it I guess - but who else!?).

"Excuse me what? Recipe please!!! Yum," someone replied.

"You just do what you would do for a normal lasagne but instead of using mince and tomato sauce you use butter chicken," the kitchen renegade replied.

Other shoppers were quick to point out it's not just the butter chicken simmer sauce that is worth an honourable mention - there are two other flavours in the Curry Up range that people love just as much.

"Yes love it too and [the] Sri Lankan curry," echoed a third.
