Aldi shoppers devastated over mysterious disappearance of 'magic' $2.79 household product
"I worked as a cleaner for the last 3 years and it is by far the best for mould! Especially at that price point."
There's nothing worse than finding an item you love, using it all the time, it becomes an integral part of your life and then, much like that finance guy you went on three dates with...it disappears without a trace. Tragedy at its finest, right?
Well, for many Aldi customers, this is the sad reality as they've found it increasingly tricky to find a household item that they describe as "magic." The item in question is Power Force Mould Remover - a must-have item for Aussie homes that in winter are both freezing and, often, damp.
So popular is this product that a cleaner has even weighed in during a Facebook discussion saying, "I worked as a cleaner for the last 3 years and it is by far the best for mould! Especially at that price point."

Shoppers lament missing mould spray
"I haven’t been able to get it for months. Hoping it’s a “re-brand” and will be back soon lol," one person replied.
"Oh no this is the best! I hate when they discontinue good products in Aldi," another said.
"I am devo. I have searched as well. Nowhere," was another sad reply.
"It’s the best. I can’t find it either here in Brisbane," echoed yet another customer.
Will the Aldi mould remover come back in stock?
One shopper offered a ray of hope by explaining, "Manager of my local store said it's coming back he just doesn't know when. Hopefully it's soon."
"They will be back in stock soon is what I was told," someone else said.
"My son said it's a 'discontinued' line at the moment, it's been replaced by an alternative until they can get supply back," a different customer said, explaining that their son manages an Aldi store. "He said like the Windex or whatever their window cleaning product is (I buy real Windex in the 5L drum. from Big W..had it for years ) .. it was replaced with [a] similar [product] and now it's back..So hang in there and keep your eyes open."
A couple of people revealed that they had recently been able to purchase some - with stores in Taree, Carlton, Engadine and Menai all getting a mention.
In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle an Aldi Spokesperson said, “Our exclusive range of products are especially curated to deliver the absolute best quality at the lowest possible price and the enthusiasm customers have around the Power Force Mould Away Spray is a testament to this.
This incredible product has been a customer favourite for many years and we can assure our customers it is certainly not discontinued.”
What are the best alternatives to the Aldi mould remover spray
Other shoppers shared that they preferred mould sprays from Coles or Woolies - such as the Strike Pro Mould which retails for $2.95 a bottle.
So, if you can't wait for the beloved Aldi Mould Remover to come back in stock (or are sceptical that it ever will) what are some great alternatives that won't cost an arm and a leg?
According to a CHOICE expert, there are some good options out there.
The most affordable alternative, and with a CHOICE expert rating of 82%, the Coles Ultra Fast Action Mould Killer seems to be a clear winner with a price point of $2.95 - just 16c more expensive than the Aldi version.
Although the Simply Clean Simply No Mould version has an 86% CHOICE expert rating, the 500ml bottle is $9.99 which could be outside of many shoppers' budgets.
At $7, the Ajax Professional Mould Cleaner is only slightly cheaper than the Simply Clean brand and comes with a lower rating (80%) than the Coles version mentioned previously.
Other brands rated by CHOICE include Exit Mould at $9.50 and with a 78% rating, White King Mould & Soap Scum Remover ($5.50 and a 77% rating) and Selleys Rapid Mould Killer which sells for $6.45 and comes with a 73% score.

How can I prevent mould in my home?
While mould sprays are great to have on hand, it's obviously preferable to prevent mould from getting into your home to begin with if you possibly can.
CHOICE Experts recommend the following tips for trying to prevent the occurrence of household mould.
Do what you can to minimise moisture entering your home: check for broken tiles and roof leaks, clear out your gutters and downpipes, assess the state of your windows and external doors and install weather seals if needed.
Ensure good ventilation: keeping air flowing through your house will help prevent humidity and therefore moisture and mould. Open up the house when you can to air it out.
Avoid drying clothes indoors: this will add to the humidity in your home. If you just can't avoid it, you can use a dehumidifier on 'laundry' mode or a dryer.
Install an exhaust fan in your bathroom: this will help minimise the humidity. They're also a good idea for your laundry if you're using a vented dryer.
Make informed choices about heating and cooling: unflued gas heaters can release moisture into the air, and having your air conditioning set to freezing when it's boiling outside can cause condensation to form.
Keep on top of the cleaning: mould needs organic matter to feed on, such as dust, dead skin cells and pet dander, so try to dust and vacuum regularly.
