Aldi shoppers have stumbled onto yet another dinner find that they are absolutely loving - but it may come as a surprise to find out what it is. While Popcorn Shrimp is a huge deal in the US, it seems that we Aussies have now been converted thanks to the affordable grocery chain.

The Ocean Royale Popcorn Prawns, which sell for $5.99, are getting quite the shoutout online as shoppers rave about their great flavour while also being kid-approved - HUGE! Other customers revealed that the popcorn prawns are pretty simple to cook (although one person did warn that the suggested air fryer instructions may need to be adjusted).

My latest Aldi find," one excited Aldi fan shared in an online group. "Sooo yummm."

Others quickly jumped in to share that they too gave the dinnertime find a big thumbs up.

"These are elite," someone said. "I actually like them with soy sauce. Bit of kewpie mayo would go nice too."

"We have them as tacos with mixed salad leaves and aioli," another shared.

"Yep we love them," someone else said while several others agreed they were "so yummy."

In a very surprising twist, several parents chimed in explaining that their kids loved the popcorn prawns. This is music to the ears of any mum or dad who has ever toiled away at a delightful meal for their child only to have it thrown on the floor...or at their head (yes, I am speaking from experience here).

"My kids are obsessed with these and ask for them for dinner all the time. I can't say I blame them, they're pretty tasty," one shopper wrote.

"I have one child who loves them as is and the 3-year-old makes me peel the crumbs off," another shared.

"My fussy 3-year-old loves these and asks me for shrimp instead of fish," said a third parent.

One concern that popped up was whether or not the prawns had been properly de-veined before being encased in the batter.

"I can't eat them knowing they are not de-veined," one person said.

"They would have to be de-veined - wouldn’t they?" another asked.

"I think there was a post a while back where someone had taken off their crumb and they weren’t deveined," someone else replied.

Indeed, back in 2022, Yahoo News Australia reported on a woman in the US who had peeled off the crumb of her popcorn shrimp only to be met with a very unsettling sight.

"I was about 10 in when I realised," she posted to the popular group for Aldi fans. "Now I'm distraught and laughing to keep from throwing up!"

Following the revolting revelation, the woman explained she peeled the skin off the remaining prawns she'd cooked and found they also still contained the controversial "poop chute".

However, the product that the shopper was referring to was the Fremont Fish Market Oven Crispy Popcorn Shrimp - which is available in US Aldi stores.

Other US Aldi fans, meanwhile, have given the shrimp only glowing reviews, like content creator Lavelle who told his 600k+ TikTok followers that was definitely a fan.

"Aldi! Aldi, are you kidding me friend? These are incredible!" he enthusiastically shared.

Sounds like the Aussie versions are just as good so you'd better be quick to get to your freezer section before they disappear!
