We love a good 'fake-away' recipe and we love an easy weeknight dinner. I mean, seriously, who has the brain capacity to pull out all the culinary stops on a random Tuesday after a day of work and looking after kids while stressing about how we're going to have a 'brat summer' when we don't even know what that really means?

Not I, sir. Certainly not I!

However, thanks to one noble Aldi shopper, we can all add one extra notch to our cooking belt with a simple and, apparently, delicious, meal that will have you saying, 'KFC who?'.

"Hands down the best ever!!! I hope they stay around. I always buy 2 packets of the yellow cheese and now I’ll be buying 2 packets of the chicken… kinda like [a] KFC burger but better my kid says yeww," the customer wrote in an Aldi fan group.

The products she was raving about were the Emporium Easy to Melt Burger Slices and the Louisana-style Chicken Breast Burgers. She also shared a photo of her adorable son who looked to be very much enjoying his meal.

For just $9.99 for a packet of around 6 chicken breasts and just $3 for ten slices of cheese, this fake-out triumph seems extremely kind on the wallet (probably less kind to the waistline but life's too short, right?)

The post was met with unbridled enthusiasm for the cheese and plenty of intrigue and excitement about the chicken too.

"They are amazing and I also double up because I don’t want them to go. Best replica for KFC and McDonald’s for kiddies," a happy shopper said.

"Best combo ever," someone else said while another wrote, "Awesome combination! We loved them!"

"The cheese is amazing, I hope they keep it I have to buy these burgers and give them a try," was another comment.

"That cheese is bloody amazing - we use it on our fake away Friday burgers. 100% recommended," yet another shopper raved.

"Oh I'm going to try these I usually use the schnitzel patties, thank you," someone else said about the chicken.

"We had these for dinner tonight too and they were amazing!!!," another fan shared.

"The tenders in that same range are also delicious," another shopper revealed.

Given Louisiana's location in the deep south of the United States, and that region's love of some good old-fashioned spice, it was understandable that several customers enquired if the Louisiana-style chicken burgers were going to be too zingy for them.

"Is the Louisiana spice on the chicken hot?" one group member enquired.

"I didn't think so," the poster replied.

"Nope, my kids lovvvve it - it's so yummm," said another.

"To us they weren't spicy, but there is a spicy alternative chicken there - here's their spicy one," another shopper wrote while sharing a photo of the Nashville-style chicken tenders.

It's not the first time Aldi has been the star of some fake-away fandom - a quick search on TikTok shows several content creators making their own versions of Maccas and KFC using products entirely purchased from the budget grocery chain.

Food and fitness coach Bec Hardgrave has previously shared her recipe for her version of the Maccas chicken burger using Aldi ingredients - to rave reviews.

It's a valid question considering that you have to go out and buy all of the separate ingredients to make the fast food dupes - not to mention the cost of your time and effort.

But essentially, yes, it is a bit cheaper to make them yourself using Aldi products!

For example, Bec told one fan that her version of the McChicken had worked out to be "under $3 for each burger." That's compared to $8.60 for the authentic Maccas version.

For our original Facebook poster who made the delish-looking burgers, they work out at about $2.60 per burger - a far cry from the $7.95 KFC charges for the Original Crispy Burger.

So, as the old saying goes - fake it 'til you make it. And, bon apetit!
