The year is 2025, and Addison Rae is cementing herself as a Main Pop Girl. After the multi-hyphenate found fame on TikTok (RIP...but not really?), she dropped a line of fashion dolls, a beauty brand, and fragrances. It wasn't long 'til she secured her acting bag in He's All That and Thanksgiving—so, naturally, music was the next step. She released her debut single, “Obsessed,” in 2021, and the pop student reintroduced herself as the teacher with “Diet Pepsi” a few years later.

But as you might recall: Back in January 2022, before she became the glamorous enigma who reads Britney Spears's memoir in paparazzi pics, a slew of Addison's demos leaked online.

In her latest cover story for Rolling Stone, the “Aquamarine” hitmaker revealed how she initially felt about the infamous music leak. “It felt so terrible,” she told the outlet, adding that she didn't know how her songs were stolen and distributed. “I was really hurt.”

But now, three years later, her feelings on the leak have changed a bit—mostly because her unofficial follow-ups to “Obsessed” were met with Stan Twitter's stamp of approval. Fans were ready for more, and eventually, tracks like “2 Die 4” and “I Got It Bad” made the final cut for her 2023 EP, AR. The tracks even landed on Charli XCX's social timelines, though Addison had already shared some with her.

“Charli had texted me and was like, ‘I heard '2 Die 4' leaked. You know I love that song. Let me do a verse,’” Addison told Rolling Stone, admitting that the leak changed her trajectory.

She added, “I’m not super religious, but I am spiritual. I think everything happened for a reason. Thank God the songs leaked.”

In August 2023, the pop star opened up to Vogue about the initial shock of her music making the rounds online.

“I was just really surprised, after what felt like a long period of time, that people were so interested and wanted to see me continue,” she said, adding, “And so I began to realize that the only way I can fail is by not continuing. I think that’s the most important thing I’ve learned over the past two-and-a-half years.”

Here's hoping we have more Addison Rae bangers for years to come.
