Zayn Malik has been supported by fans in his recent announcement following the death of his One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne. The 31-year-old Strip That Down hitmaker was found dead after falling from a balcony in Buenos Aries on Wednesday afternoon local time.

Each of Liam’s fellow One Direction members shared a statement following his passing, and now Zayn has announced a significant career decision. The Pillowtalk singer has postponed the US leg of his upcoming tour, which is set to be his first-ever solo tour.

“Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour,” he wrote on Twitter. “The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”

Zayn’s upcoming tour, which is in support of his fourth studio album Room Under the Stairs, was set to begin on October 23 in San Francisco and end on December 4 in Manchester, England.

He announced the tour last month on The Tonight Show and wrote on Instagram alongside the tour dates: “Appreciate your patience, love, and support. Can’t wait to enjoy great music together.”

The US leg will see Zayn play seven shows across San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and New York City. The tour will now begin on November 20 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Fans quickly replied to Zayn’s post to share their well wishes and messages of support as he grieves the loss of his friend.

“Thank YOU for putting yourself first, take all the time you need Z, we are here for you and we will always support you, take care of yourself and your mental health, sending all my love to you,” one person wrote.

“Take the time you need and take care of yourself during this rough time. We love you Z,” another added, while a third said, “Everyone understands, Zayn. Take care of yourself”.

“We can only imagine how hard this must be for you. Stay strong King. Lots of love and prayers from us all,” someone else replied.

Following Liam’s death, Zayn posted a lengthy tribute on social media alongside a sweet photo of them sleeping on top of one another in a car during the early stages of One Direction.

“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can't help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” he wrote.

“I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved.

“Even though you were younger than me you were always more sensible than me, you were headstrong, opinionated, and gave no f**ks about telling people when they were wrong. Even though we butted heads because of this a few times 😂, I always secretly respected you for it.”

Zayn went on to say that when it came to music, Liam was “the most qualified in every sense” while he “knew nothing in comparison”.

“l was a novice child with no experience and you were already a professional. I was always happy to know, no matter what happened on stage we could always rely on you to know which way to steer the ship next,” he continued.

“I lost a brother when you left us and can't explain to you what I'd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly. I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever.

“There is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace 🙏🏽 and you know how loved you are. Love you bro.”
