Fans divided over Casey Donovan's take on 'Defying Gravity': 'Stopped breathing'
Some fans were left in tears after Casey's emotional New Year's Eve performance.
Casey Donovan took to the stage for a New Year's Eve performance in Sydney earlier this week, belting out hit songs like Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' and 'Defying Gravity' from the musical Wicked.
The Aussie star's emotional performances had people raving about her vocal prowess on social media sites like TikTok and Instagram.

Casey, who is currently starring in Sister Act, won Australian Idol back in 2004 at the age of 16 and in recent years been making a name for herself on stage, performing in musicals such as Chicago, & Juliet and 9 to 5: The Musical.
Her performances on New Year's Eve left people stunned, with many begging her to release covers of the songs she sang.
"Please release this!!! I’M CRYING!! What a way to start off 2025 and end 2024!" one person commented on her 'Defying Gravity' performance. "Is there nothing she can’t sing .. a national treasure," another said.

"WOW WOW 😮 she put her heart and soul in that performance, loved her version of 'Hallelujah' gave me goosebumps," another commented.

"I think I actually stopped breathing it was so good," someone else said about Casey's 'Hallelujah' performance, while another stated, "She did such a diverse group of songs tonight, there is nothing she can’t do."
There were some more disgruntled comments, with some keyboard warriors deciding the performance wasn't up to scratch for them.

"Sings flat," one person said. "As an Australian, I genuinely find her terribly irritating," another commented.
"She’s not flat, apart from that final note that was iffy," someone else said, with a different user commenting, "Top performer is a bit of a stretch."
