Woman's rant about dating Australian men goes viral: 'In the trenches'

A tourist visiting Australia has gone viral on TikTok after uploading a video asking how Australian dating works, stating she's completely confused when it comes to the dating efforts from Aussie men.

In a 23-second video, TikTok user @aimersx said she does not understand Australian men and their lack of effort, stating many other women shared the same horror stories she was experiencing.

"Can someone please explain to me how Australian dating rules work?" she asked.

"I do not understand! If you say one wrong thing you're left on read and the amount of dates that have been organised and the guy has never texted me again has never happened anywhere else in this world," she continued.

"And every woman I speak to has the exact same horror stories about Australian men, someone please elaborate!" she ended the video.

'We are in the trenches'

Many TikTok users flooded to the comments to express their same concerns, with Aussie women saying there are "no rules" and everyone's in a fight for their life.

"We don't have rules... you just fight for your life," one person said.

"Dating isn't a thing here," another Australian woman commented. "You hook up and if you vibe you keep hooking up until eventually no one leaves and then you’re a couple."

"We are truly in the trenches here in Australia," another person sympathised.

Some thought it was predominantly a Sydney-based problem.

"Coming from Melbourne, dating in Sydney has been the most fried thing I’ve ever experienced in my 30 years of life," one woman said.

Others thought maybe it was just a generational issue.

"I think it’s honestly a communication issue with us millenials. We can’t be dealing with confrontation so we ghost, we’re scared of committing…" one person pointed out.

Others said it was time to stop dating Australian men.

"Rule #1: Look for men in other countries," one person commented.

"I WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING!!! I am from Texas but lived in Aus for 10 years in my 20s. I moved back to the States 18 months ago and now I’m engaged," one now-happy person said.
