White Lotus fans fuming over major change to season three: 'Ruined the entire show'
After the third season of The White Lotus premiered on Monday, fans have been upset over a major change producers made.
The White Lotus fans have been eagerly awaiting the third season of the popular series since season two finished airing in late 2022. One of the things fans loved the most about the second season was the updated theme song, which was a more hyped-up version of the first season's opening tune.
But in season three, that song has totally changed. And fans aren't happy about it, with some saying the show "did us dirty" and "ruined" the season.
Season three is set in Thailand this year and the official description reads: "The social satire is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week."
White Lotus 'so disappointed' by major change to show
Taking to social media, plenty of fans have been left "pissed" by the change to the theme song, with one very passionate viewer writing, "WHY DID YOU DO THIS THE OPENING THEME WAS ICONIC THIS IS CRIMINAL TAKE. IT. BACK."
"WTF IS THAT 😭 THE OLD ONE WAS SO GOOD," another added.
"We’ll be skipping the intro this time," a third wrote.
"Season 1: Armond is killed. Season 2: Tanya is killed. Season 3: the opening song is killed... 🥺," someone else said.
"Noooooooo 😭 we all wanted the theme back, like an old friend we catch up with," one person added.
"First, Tanya. Now this. Good lord," another said.
"Doodududoo wasn’t just a melody," yet another fan wrote. "Doodududoo was THE character. Justice for Doodududoo!"

"I hate that they changed the theme song, this new song is terrible and it ruined the entire show," another said. "I couldn’t even pay attention to the first episode I was so disappointed."

White Lotus fans praise change: 'The perfect reset'
However, others loved the new song, with one fan writing, "This new theme song feels like the perfect reset, setting the tone for the episode beautifully. It’s all about wellness - meditation, spirituality - relaxation - guiding the audience into the right headspace.
"The previous themes focused on wealth and seduction, designed to elevate excitement and anticipation - really get the vibes going with high energy. Now, with a new season comes a fresh, intentional introduction, perfectly aligned with its purpose. Well done!!
"Omg the best description ever. Agree from the beginning to the end," another said in response.
"This is honestly pretty dope. Love the new artwork too," a third added.
"I wanted to hate this so bad but it’s a bop," someone else quipped.
Why is the White Lotus theme song different for season 3?
Mike White, creator of the show, has previously said that spirituality will be a major theme for the new season, so the theme fits with that. Composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer also revealed to Deadline last year that he took a very experimental approach to crafting the music for the HBO series.
He hinted at the changing theme, saying, "I really liked this orchestral thing. I might go with the orchestral. We’ll see."
"I mean, it has to fit Thailand, but it doesn’t mean that it has to mimic local music or anything like that."

He added in an interview with Variety, "I hear interesting things in TikTok or YouTube sometimes."
"I think that the best song I heard in the last few years that I can remember is people harmonizing to a cat on TikTok," he said. "There’s a cat, and somebody put some piano and then some girls started harmonizing, and then there’s all these versions harmonizing this cat, it’s super moving and so spontaneous and fresh that this is grabbing a lot more my attention than super-produced pop music."
"I'm a fan of pop music, but it feels like it's been a while that I feel like something has surprised me."
Interestingly, he also said that he thought season two's theme was "terrible".
