TV shows can often have quite a big effect on us. We grow to love the characters and feel like we know them, that they're our friends, almost.

But Netflix's You isn't the type of show you'd associate with this warm and fuzzy feeling. The show stars Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a seemingly mild-mannered and 'good guy', who, in reality, is a stalker and serial killer who will do anything to be with the women he obsesses over.

Netflix announced this week with a teaser trailer that the fifth and final season will be released on April 24, two years after season four dropped in 2023. Fans will be happy to know that all ten episodes will drop at one time and they won't be split up over two parts.

"Hello, you. Do you remember me?" Joe asks in the trailer. "Because I remember you."

In the trailer, Joe returns to New York, the place he killed his first victim.

"Here we are together again, back to where it all began," he says. "A lot has happened these many years together. Identities, cities, loves. Complications.

"But all that led me here. To now. To where I was always meant to be. And the one constant, the one thing that has always been there for me… is you," Joe declares. "You who have been there the whole time and has been with me to the end.

It seems as though the show has had an odd influence over relationships, with some people revealing they have broken up with their significant other due to You.

"This show is the reason my ex-girlfriend broke up with me," one YouTube user shared. "She was like 'Joe is out there killing people and he still texts back! But YOU forget that I even exist whenever you hang out with the boys.'"

"At this point there is no excuses," another added.

"Yeah bro you have no excuses," a third added.

"My gf broke up with me because I paid more attention to Joe than I did to her," another joked. "I didn’t really know what she was saying I wasn’t paying attention."

Those whose relationships haven't been ruined by the show are very excited for it to come back, with one Instagram user writing, "My god, I'm not ready for the end."

"Somebody get me my asthma spray!" another joked. "It's happening guys!"

"I SCREAMED," a third added.

"I just went into cardiac arrest," someone else wrote.

"It's been 84 years!" another joked. "But we are so glad to see YOU!"

"I don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye," one person said.

Some shared theories on what they believe might happen with one YouTube user writing, "The reason the show is narrated is because hes writing his autobiography from jail. Or based on the trailer, he realizes he’s been evil the entire time and locks himself away in the glass box."

Many others believe that Joe will meet his end in the glass box, some also believe that Joe's first love might be in New York and she will help take him down.
