Summer essential with 200 positive reviews and available in sizes 8 to 26: 'Oh-so-flattering'

For many women, stripping down to a swimsuit is the most naked they’ll ever be in public. The anxiety that can come with being that exposed on a beach or at the pool is very familiar to Aussie designer Nadia Tucker, founder of the activewear and swimwear label Active Truth.

It’s what led her to create what’s affectionately been dubbed as the ‘LBD of swimwear’ - a little black one-piece made with a supportive fabric that shapes and sculpts in a way that flatters curvy female figures. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Nadia explained why she felt driven to create the cossie which has proven to be an instant hit.

“That moment of vulnerability is one so many of us have lived,” she says, “I remember feeling like I wasn’t fully participating in life - avoiding beach cricket with my boys or sitting out of body surfing with them. And forget being in the beach photos - there was no evidence I’d even been there!”

Nadia doesn’t want women to think that the beach and pool should only be populated with the kinds of bodies we see on Instagram, so she created her line in sizes 8 to 26 to give women the means to look and feel their best when wearing next to nothing.

“Our swimwear is about getting out from under the cabana and into the sunshine - feeling confident enough to make those memories,” she says.

The standout from Active Truth’s debut swimwear collection is the Coolum Core Support one piece which comes in a textured fabric and sports a v-shaped neckline and ruching across the midsection.

The 'Spanx of Swimwear'

Described by Tucker as the ‘Spanx of swimwear’, the one piece is fully lined with a power mesh fabric for support and shaping. The bust is underwire-free, with an internal shelf bra providing structured support for up to a size F cup, and the bottoms offer mid-coverage and are designed to stay in place whether you’re lounging, swimming or playing a little beach cricket.

Since its launch last year, the Coolum Core Support has sold out ten times and garnered 200 positive reviews, with former The Biggest Loser host Fiona Falkiner among its fans.

“I love that it’s underwire free and yet so supportive,” Fiona, who models for the brand, says on Instagram.

The swimsuit is available in classic black as well as red, navy and green, and retails for $150. The sizes go from Small to 3XL, with Tucker telling Yahoo Lifestyle that they don’t just size up a size 8 pattern, but craft each size uniquely for the perfect fit.

“Our swimwear is engineered to fit and perform for all bodies. Bodies don’t scale proportionally, so neither should swimsuits,” she says, “Each size is carefully adjusted to ensure the same level of comfort and functionality, whether you’re a size 8 or a size 26.”

Other designs include the Byron adjustable bikini top and high-waisted bottoms which are made in the same textured fabric as the Coolum, and the smoother Bondi one-piece which has a square neckline.
