The Diplomat, which has been nominated for one Primetime Emmy and three Golden Globes since its premiere in 2023, stars Keri Russell as UK ambassador Kate Wyler. The series also stars Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh.

On The West Wing, Janney played White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg, while Whitford portrayed Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman. Created by Aaron Sorkin, The West Wing aired on NBC from 1999 to 2006, chronicling the lives of President Josiah Barlett (Martin Sheen) and his senior staff.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Season 3, but it is expected to pick up where the Season 2 cliffhanger left off, with Janney’s character — formerly the shady vice president — receiving the ultimate promotion following President Rayburn’s fatal heart attack.
