WATCH: Laurence Fishburne's Longtime Friend Sheds Tears Over Surprise Makeover from Matrix Star (Exclusive)

During an appearance on HGTV's 'Celebrity IOU,' the 'John Wick' actor takes a sledgehammer to concrete to give his friend the backyard of his dreams

Laurence Fishburne is giving his longtime friend the gift of a lifetime.

In a new episode of Celebrity IOUthe Matrix alum, 62, enlisted the help of HGTV hosts Drew and Jonathan Scott to help redesign his friend and employee Greg's California backyard.

According to Fishburne, Greg is someone who is willing to help out in any situation, whether it's work or personal, and fixing up his backyard — which has a number of problems including drainage, cracked cement and a warped wooden deck — serves as a way for him to say "thank you and I love you."

Fishburne has sent Greg out of town for several weeks on a "wild goose chase" so that they can complete their renovations with the help of his wife, the star reveals in the exclusive clip of this week's episode above.

"I've sent him on a 'very, very important' assignment," Fishburne tells the Scotts.

"You and I have been working together for 15, 16 years, and you're like my younger brother, I'm kind of your older brother that's a pain in the a--," he jokes. "And I love you, we love each other."

In the exclusive clip, the John Wick actor — who, as the Scott brothers point out, really does have a background in martial arts — shows off his best sledgehammering skills using a cane, as he has a broken foot.

"Whose a-- am I going to kick first?" he jokes, wielding it over his head.

“You don't get to see these celebrities the way we showcase them outside of their shows or on stage,” Drew previously told PEOPLE of the show, adding that the “heartwarming stories” in each episode will have viewers in tears every time.

Jonathan chimed in that it’s touching to watch these A-list celebrities “jump in and do something that they have no experience doing. They don't say no because they want to show their gratitude for how much these people have done for them.”

Fishburne's episode of Celebrity IOU airs Sunday, June 16 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV.
