Fresh from her brief stint on The Masked Singer, a noticeably ‘maskless’ Gretel Killeen popped by another of Channel 10’s show, The Project, on Tuesday night.

And the former Octopus, who was booted from the popular reality TV show the previous night, may have dropped a major spoiler for viewers at home.

Minutes before the episode ended, the ex-Big Brother host ‘unmasked’ her fellow panellist Waleed Aly as the mystery celeb behind the Robot costume, leaving Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little speechless.

Gretel reveals the Robot’s identity

The dramatic moment occurred after the topic turned to Gretel’s Masked Singer foray and Carrie went on to quiz her on who the other contestants are.

“Everyone thinks I’m being very coy but I have no idea,” she responded.

She went on to detail the show’s extreme security measures, which included being “picked up from a secret spot” and travelling to and from the set in individual blacked-out vehicles, being covered from head to toe and forbidden to speak to anyone except a single producer.

“Even on the final show when we may or may not come together to sing, we could be this close to each other and there is no talking,” she added.

“So you wouldn’t know if it’s Waleed in the Robot?” Carrie prompted, at which point the lawyer and author changed her tune and came right out and said it.

“I know Waleed is definitely in it,” she revealed to the astonishment of the panel, including Waleed himself.

Is Waleed Aly the Robot?

Even though Gretel may have been joking around, Waleed is a hot pick for the Robot if the clues are anything to go by.

For a start, in the clues, the Robot says, “I really care about the real world and want to make it a happier place,” which ties in with Waleed’s passion for social justice.

The Robot also claims they were “surrounded by gold” when they were “growing up,” which could be a reference to Waleed’s Gold Logie wins, although he wasn’t very young when he won them.

And as Carrie went on to point out, the writer and academic is, in fact, a musician, and plays the guitar in a band called Robot Child.

The four-piece rock band was formed in Melbourne in 2008, and multi-talented Waleed is credited as the main songwriting force.

Other top guesses for the Robot are Aussie pop star Cody Simpson, who was born on the Gold Coast - a reference to “surrounded by gold” - and is an exact match for the Robot’s height of 182cm tall.

He also used to be a state swimmer which ties in with the clue “I have always been connected to the water,” and he’s also a UN advocate for oceans.

Jett Kenny is another potential for the Robot, being the son of Aussie swimming golden couple Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny.

The Masked Singer judges’ guesses are Usher, Troye Sivan, Matt Corby, Conrad Sewell.

More Masked Singer spoilers

Gretel’s bombshell about Waleed isn’t the first ‘spoiler’ The Masked Singer has seen. Immediately after the first episode aired on Monday night, it appeared that the identity of the Wolf had been leaked as well.

A radio producer tweeted a photo of the Wolf and tagged Aussie singer and performer Rob ‘Millsy’ Mills in the caption, causing many to suspect that the “Up All Night” singer is appearing on the show.

The former star of the Sydney Olympics’ Opening Ceremony, Nikki Webster, has also been forced to address rumours that she’s the Alien.

The now-32-year-old was vague in her response, saying “I guess it depends”.

The Masked Singer airs 7.30 Monday and Tuesday on Channel 10.
