Viral 'SNL' Domingo skit includes 'Espresso' spoof, gets Sabrina Carpenter approval

Ariana Grande was working late (guest hosting "Saturday Night Live"), 'cause she's a singer — and one buzzy sketch is still Domingoing viral a week later.

The most recent episode of "SNL" included a take on Sabrina Carpenter's caffeinated chart-topper "Espresso," where a squad of bridesmaids recount what happened during a bachelorette party to Charleston, South Carolina.

The sketch features "SNL" host Grande and cast members Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman as bridesmaids who decide to skip a speech in favor of a flavorful rendition of the song for bride and espresso martini connoisseur Kelsey, played by Chloe Fineman.

"Instead of a speech, we're gonna do something different for y'all because we're a little bit creative and a little bit quirky," Gardner's character says, before the bride's "Kels Squad" starts singing.

Things escalate between the bride and a doctor and model named Domingo as the bridesmaids recount the trip, adding in more details as they go to different locations and Kelsey is "dancing with Domingo."

"Hands me her ring, then we can't find her," Nwodim croons, as the bride explains what happened to her groom Matthew, played by Andrew Dismukes. "I just didn't want to lose it in the hot tub," Kelsey says to a concerned Matthew.

Later the women divulge that Kelsey and Domingo's time in the hot tub led the bride-to-be to ask the group to book a hotel so the duo could spend time alone.

"At the Marriott, Googling Domingo," Grande continues, before Nwodim finishes her sentence, singing, "just to make sure he's not psycho." The incredulous groom asks whether "the point" of the song was to find out the bride was cheating.

"No, the point is it's 'Espresso,'" Gardner explains to the angry groom.

Domingo, played by fan-favorite cast member Marcello Hernandez, shows up and crashes the wedding with a message "direct from Domingo." While insisting that he and Kelsey are just friends, Domingo proclaims, "we did hook up, though!"

Sabrina Carpenter responded to 'Espresso' spoof, 'SNL' Domingo song goes viral on TikTok

The "SNL" spoof is garnering significant buzz online, including from Carpenter herself.

One person's rating of favorite Domingo lines from the sketch has nearly 2 million views on TikTok, while a real-life doctor named Domingo who, like Domingo in the skit, "donates to weird, sick animals" received more than 2.6 million views on TikTok with his video using the audio from the sketch. Even Tennessee Titans players sang the song on TikTok.

According to Billboard and Cosmopolitan, Carpenter herself chimed in on the sketch. "Very nice and on pitch," she wrote on her Instagram story while reposting a clip of the off-key "SNL" sketch with some heart emojis. Last season, she performed the hit song on "Saturday Night Live" during the Season 49 finale.

"SNL" returned for a historic 50th season on Sept. 28.

This Saturday's episode will feature sketches with host Michael Keaton and musical guest Billie Eilish, fresh off a successful summer from her album "Hit Me Hard and Soft." On Nov. 2, in a pre-presidential election performance, comedian John Mulaney will return to "SNL" to host with musical guest Billie Eilish.

Grande, who made an appearance in Season 49 as a musical guest, is among a slate of hosts that includes Keaton, Mulaney and previous hosts Jean Smart and Nate Bargatze.
