Viola Davis Was An Outfit-Repeater At The Golden Globes, And She Looked Even More Stunning This Time Around
While wearing an outfit more than once used to be frowned upon in Hollywood, Viola Davis proved that's one rule she won't be abiding by, and she looked great doing it!
Last night, Viola attended the 2025 Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, accompanied by her husband and fellow actor, Julius Tennon.
The EGOT winner was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her outstanding achievements and contributions to the entertainment world. The significant mark she continues to leave in the film and television industry made her an obvious contender.
To celebrate the occasion, Viola rocked the red carpet in a gorgeous black sequined Gucci dress. The gown featured a deep v-neck and a dramatic beaded rainbow cape.
The more I look at it, the more I fall in love with it. What makes this outfit even better is how beautiful Viola appears to feel in it.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star was first seen wearing this dress in November at the 2024 LACMA Gala, but the original look was accompanied by a black striped cape that flowed over her arms, almost resembling sleeves.
Here's another angle:
Viola's stylist Elizabeth Stewart told Vogue the actor couldn't get enough of the Gucci dress she wore to the LACMA Gala: "And when we actually tried it with everyone from Gucci there in the room Viola loved it and said something like, ‘I would wear this a thousand times!’”
Well, she got a head start on that by repurposing the look for the 82nd Annual Golden Globes. Inspired by Viola's love of color, Gucci's creative director Sabato De Sarno, drew up a sketch Viola couldn't ignore.
“A rainbow is a symbol of hope and happiness in a dark time. Very meaningful for Viola, who never does anything without purpose,” Elizabeth said. To which Viola added, “The dramatic, bold but classic style made me feel like I was stepping into the woman I’ve always been….and dreamed of being.”
“I think sustainability is what we should all be striving for, in any small way we can, and the fashion world, with its visibility and impact, has an opportunity to help lead the charge,” Elizabeth said. “We wouldn’t have thought to re-wear it so soon but with Viola receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, we realized what a perfect choice this would be.”
And when you're right, you're right! The look was perfect and I hope more celebs take notes, because there are so many ways to make an "old" outfit look new again.
