Yahoo Lifestyle Usher Reveals The Surprise Project He And Jennifer Hudson Almost Worked On Together
In 2001, Usher reminded us of a girl he once knew; twenty-four years later, he’s reminding us of a moment he almost worked alongside Jennifer Hudson.
On Tuesday, Usher, born Usher Raymond IV, glided through the “Jennifer Hudson Show”’s spirit tunnel to take a stroll down memory lane.
Hudson kicked off the conversation by admitting she couldn’t recall the exact moment their paths first crossed, prompting her to ask Usher. The “My Way” said that theirs wasn’t exactly a traditional meeting.
“[It] had more to do with a project you were majorly a part of,” he said. “So many people rallying around you.”
Usher then hinted at the project cryptically, building suspense before revealing it was a film that had earned Hudson an award. The film in question? The movie “Dreamgirls.”
“Wait, you were going to be in ‘Dreamgirls’?” Hudson exclaimed, shocked. Usher responded with a simple, “Yes.”
Her first question was who he had been cast to play in the 2006 film. Before continuing his story, Usher whispered, “C.C.,” referring to the role of C.C. White, the brother Hudson’s character.
“I didn’t know you didn’t know this story,” he confessed. “I was in the middle of a tour and it was a schedule conflict that caused me not to play the character.”
Usher shared he was “excited for what was getting ready to happen,” but ultimately, timing wasn’t on his side. He then turned the conversation toward Hudson, praising the host as an “encouraging talent” for young girls everywhere.
Hudson portrayed Effie White in “Dreamgirls” and went on to win an Academy Award in 2007 for Best Supporting Actress.
