Travis Kelce's two-word Prince William comment slammed: 'Disrespectful'

Taylor Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, has divided royal fans after he shared with his podcast listeners what it was like to meet Prince William last week at the Eras Tour in London. Speaking on New Heights, the podcast he presents with his brother, Jason Kelce, revealed all about his meeting with the Prince of Wales and his two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

"Dude, he was the coolest motherf***er," Travis said of William. "They were an absolute delight to meet. Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hand."

Jason added that because it wasn't an official royal event, they were told before meeting William that they wouldn't need to bow.

"We wanted to be polite, especially on this side of the pond," Travis added.

"I did still address him as Your Royal Highness, and I've never felt emasculated and I did, that was the closest I've ever come," Jason joked.

"I’ve never seen you give someone that much respect," Travis responded. "You put your beer like ten feet away from you."

The pair added that all three were "wonderful people", though Jason added that the highlight was Princess Charlotte, who he described as "so f***ing adorable".

Social media users were very divided over the comments – Travis' fans loved him calling William the "coolest motherf***er", but some royal fans found it incredibly "disrespectful".

"Travis and Jason just did more for the Royal Family’s PR than anyone had in a long time lol," one user wrote on YouTube.

"Love that Princess Charlotte was the star," another said.

"Love that positive shout out to the Wales family," a third wrote.

"They did respect them more behind the camera when they met," another said of Travis and Jason. "And even asking if they should bow or curtsy but was told no need since it is not formal event. Still they are polite and address him HRH. Even on their podcast they praise Wales Fam and swearing is the spice 🤪."

"Travis would have been better to keep that trashy accolade to himself," a third said. "So vulgar and disrespectful. Said by a fellow American."

"Not his future king. For an American, William is just a dude," someone else responded. "And if he is perceived as a 'cool mofo'... that is a high praise. The highest."

"Not his King. It's high praise," another Travis fan agreed.

"I’m sure he praised William but the way he said it makes me a little uncomfortable," someone else added. "He is not his future king but it was kinda rude to describe the future king in another country. I think he could have shown a little more respect. But I guess it's hard to ask that of him."
