Tom Sandoval reveals unaired reasons behind his pit stains on “The Traitors”: 'I can laugh at it now'
"I felt like s---," Sandoval said in a video. "And on top of it, the airline lost my luggage."
Yes, Tom Sandoval knows you're laughing at his horrifyingly large pit stains on The Traitors. But now the Vanderpump Rules alum is laughing at it too as he reveals the unaired reasons why he was sweating his "ass off" in the castle — and it had nothing to do with the game at all.
The man behind "Scandoval" addressed his "rough" appearance in the first episodes of season 3 on his Instagram story on Thursday. He first shared a video he took on set in the infamous green sweater, giving a set tour while revealing his luggage still had not arrived by day two of filming.

"Man, that video, I looked rough," Sandoval said. "I also felt like s---. I mean, I had like over 24 hours of travel, including an eight-hour layover, which made my immune system go to s--- and caused a domino of problems. I'm sure you could tell my eye was swollen, because I had a stye in my eye. And the stress and the weakened immune system caused canker sores, sore throat, and on top of it, the airline lost my luggage!"

Sandoval went on to reveal that, without his luggage, he "was at the mercy of the wardrobe department" of Peacock's hit reality competition series. He added that they "did a great job," except for when they dressed him in that viral combo of the green sweater and gray shirt. "They gave me the thickest wool sweater I've ever worn, and man, that thing, I was sweating my ass off," he said before laughing. "It was hot in there, and, well, I'm only human. At least I can laugh at it now, as you guys all have."

No stranger to sweating it out on reality TV after his affair became a national scandal, Sandoval became the first meme on The Traitors season 3 when he took off his sweater at breakfast, revealing gigantic sweat stains under his arm pits (let this be a lesson for anyone prone to sweating: gray T-shirts are not your friend!). His fellow castmates noticed his embarrassing fashion emergency, and Chrishell Stause — a loud and proud supporter of Sandoval's ex Ariana Madix, whom he cheated on with her best friend Rachel Leviss (formerly known as "Raquel") — alleged there was an even more salacious reason behind it with a wink-wink-nudge-nudge double meaning.
"The castle was not cold,” Stause told Andy Cohen on the Jan. 15 episode of Watch What Happens Live. "I think Sandoval was imbibing in, probably drinking a lot of Coke. He had too much sugar in his system."
Another cast member, Wells Adams, wished he noticed Sandoval's pit stains in the moment during filming so he could have used it as a tool in the game. "Watching it back, I was like, 'Man, he's got two faucets running at full steam,'" the Bachelor in Paradise bartender (and Mr. Sarah Hyland) told Parade. "I wish I had clocked it, because then I maybe could have been like, 'You're a Traitor because you're sweating a lot!' And then I probably wouldn't be banished in the second episode."

Sandoval even caught some heat from Traitors host Alan Cumming, who asked him at the beginning of the season if he wanted to be a Traitor or Faithful. Sandoval admitted he wouldn't "do well" as a Traitor, and Cumming asked if he would be "betrayed" if he was still chosen as a Traitor anyways. When Sandoval agreed, Cumming roasted him with this sly reference to his past infidelity: "Doesn't feel so nice, does it?"
As of now, Sandoval has evaded being both murdered and banished on The Traitors, allowing him to sweat it out for another day.
