MAFS fans slam groom Eliot Donovan ahead of show's premiere: 'Has issues'

It's no surprise Married At First Sight loves to cast controversial characters, and with the show set to premiere on Monday January 27, the countdown is once again on for fans who are ready to strap in four nights a week and go on the wild ride that is MAFS.

MAFS has slowly been drip-feeding us more information about the 2025 cast ahead of the premiere, and there's one groom, Eliot Donovan, who fans are keeping a wary eye on after his promo where he talks about his list of non-negotiables in a partner, listing out all of his dislikes including someone who is "low-class, overly loud, older, and career-oriented".

Yes, the man hates a driven woman trying to earn money, apparently.

Eliot also claims if he feels nothing on his wedding day he'll leave the show — even mid-ceremony if he has to. "It'll be like, mic off, seeya," he said.

Needless to say, fans are less than stoked on Eliot, his ego, and his huge list of non-negotiables. "Eliot has issues," one fan commented, with another saying, "Why would they cast someone like this? We want to see REAL peace wanting to genuinely get married."

"He doesn’t want a partner who is driven, career oriented or an authority figure? Why are these fragile little boys so threatened and intimidated by strong independent women?" one person asked, with another joking, "And he wonders why he's single."

Even last year's contestant Richard Sauerman got in on the action, posting some laughing emojis and quoting Eliot, saying "I know I’m a catch 😂."

"If you're a catch then why are you on the show," another person simply pointed out.

What do we know about MAFS groom Eliot Donovan?

Eliot himself says his friends would describe him as "too confident" for his own good but before we cast him as this year's standout villain, we may not actually see much of Eliot on our screens.

Last year it was reported that Eliot was the first groom due to walk out of the experiment, fleeing back to Brisbane not long after his wedding. Daily Mail reported that he was left “unimpressed” with his bride Lauren Hall.

In his MAFS bio, Eliot is described as a "well-travelled, confident and blunt, straight-shooter," with aspirations to have a "nuclear family" and is looking for a traditional relationship where he is the provider. Eliot is a business owner, who has set up businesses in Australia and Sri Lanka.
