The Block's Neale Whitaker has slammed the show's 'frustrating' editing following the 2023 season premiere on Sunday night.

Neale, who has been a judge on the show for 17 seasons, confessed on the show that he wouldn't be able to join his fellow judges Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer as often as he usually does.

He shared he would be "breaking up the band temporarily", however, the reason was never aired.

"I'm getting all emotional telling you this," he told them. "But it's really big for me."

The trio hugged and told Neale they'd be there for him, offering their full support.

They then began looking at the challenge bedrooms, with fans left not knowing why he would be taking a step back from the show.

Neale shared the scene on Instagram, sharing his feelings on the way the scene had been edited.

"There’s nothing more frustrating than an unexplained decision or an incomplete narrative - especially where health and family are concerned," he wrote. "This is what went to air tonight on the first episode of The Block’s 19th season, my 17th. I broke the news to Shaynna and Darren that I would be unable to join them each week and explained my reasons.

"It was an emotional conversation for all of us," Neale added. "Unfortunately those important reasons didn’t make the cut so here goes. This year I’ve chosen to put family first. David, my partner of 20 years, has been experiencing some serious and ongoing health issues and we knew my place was at home."

Neale added that Melbourne real estate expert Marty Fox would be filling in for him on the weeks he can't attend the set, but he will still be on the show from time to time.

"The good news is that David is making great progress, my Block family has been fully supportive of my decision and I’m looking forward to returning to The Block full time for the show’s 20th anniversary season in 2024," he finished.

It's a no brainer. Good to hear he is making great progress and I am sure your presence with him will contribute to that."

"Sending love and best wishes that David's health gets better," another said. "You made the right decision to put your family first."

"I got emotional just reading this," a third said. "The fact that you are supporting David above everything shows the strength of your relationship. I sincerely hope all will be well."
