The Block's Shaynna Blaze calls out major renovation mistake

The TV star reveals the biggest mistake Australians are making when restyling their homes.

The Block judge Shaynna Blaze has revealed what she believes to be the number one mistake Australians are making when they renovate their own homes.

The popular interior designer, 60, told The Australian she dislikes the lack of originality people have these days thanks to social media.

“We’ve lived in this Instagram and Pinterest world for so long that people are just completely copying and pasting what someone else has done,” she said.

“There’s a lack of soul in a lot of things people put out there and an over-saturation of vanilla, with people just white-washing their home and their life.”

Shaynna went on to say that while she understands renovations cost a lot of money and people “don’t want to get it wrong”, they shouldn’t focus too much on other opinions.

“People care too much about what others think and that’s where the cookie-cutter becomes a safety net,” she detailed.

“Also, people are too caught up in the value-add. My attitude is, if you’re designing in order to sell your house in five years, you’re living someone else’s dream.”
