The Block's Steph and Gian brutally slammed over 'sad' room reveal

"This is next level."

The Block kicked off its newest season on Sunday night, with the teams tasked with creating kids' rooms themed to Disney characters and the winner given the choice out of the five houses to renovate.

Steph and Gian Ottavio, an architect and start-up worker, were given the task of creating a bedroom themed around Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, with the childhood sweethearts missing the brief entirely and being slammed over their 'beige' room reveal.

The pair decided to create a room that a child could grow into rather than a room that would only suit them for 'five years' before needing to change things up again.

Shaynna Blaze was left stunned by the room, saying, "The fact you're not listening to the brief, what are you presenting to us? I mean, it's not even a kid's room."

"The brief was to create a kid's room," Neale Whittaker added. "If they were thinking they'd take a bit of a punt and show the judges they're sophisticated and grown up, and we'd walk in and be wowed. Fail."

Pointing at the dark wooden set of drawers, he sarcastically added, "I mean, every child's dream, surely."

"It's not even a kids' room," he continued, adding that Steph, as an architect, "should know how to meet a brief".

There was very little to make it obvious that the room was, in fact, a kid's room, however, the judges added that the actual work that had been done was done well, despite missing the brief.

Scott Cam read judges' feedback aloud, telling the pair, "We've seen contestants before forget a brief and then do what they want. But this is next level."

Steph and Gian were left disappointed by the feedback, with Steph insisting they didn't miss the brief, while Gian admitted he believed they had.

The pair scored 14 out of a potential 30 points, landing them last.

"I really hope Steph and Gian don't end up giving us sad beige rooms every week," one viewer Tweeted.

"These are the worst kids rooms I've ever seen," another said of all the room reveals.

"Steph and Gian's kids room is the worst kids room I've ever seen," a third added.
