The Block's Maddy and Charlotte's 'secret' past comes back to haunt them: 'Flat-out lied'

The Block fans have slammed the contestants for "making a mountain out of a molehill".

At the end of Sunday night's episode, The Block contestants were left shocked to discover that Maddy and Charlotte have some experience flipping houses. However, fans have no sympathy for them, saying they're trying to make something out of nothing.

"They flat-out lied," fellow Blockhead, Haydn, told TV Week. "They told us they were accountants – they didn’t mention they’d flipped houses. They asked for advice on how to do things within a build, yet they obviously knew it all."

The teams found out after Haydn's wife, Chelsea, and their newborn daughter, Matilda, relocated to Phillip Island to be closer together. Chelsea becomes friends with Kylie in House 4, who asks Chelsea to find "dirt" on Maddy and Charlotte.

"Chelsea loves to get involved – that’s her character," Haydn said. "She found the video [of Maddy and Charlotte renovating] on Google in five minutes."

Haydn's teammate Ricky then claims that the sisters have an unfair advantage, saying, "Me and H have never flipped a house together," he says. "It takes weeks to get to know each other’s strengths when it comes to renovating."

Maddy defended her and her sister, saying, "Mimi [of House 5] had heard rumours from the builders that we had experience and asked us about it, and we were honest."

"We told her our story of renovating houses – we never lied. If the others had asked about our experience, we would have shared it, but they never did. It’s not on us to tell them the nitty-gritty."

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the other contestants being mad at finding out the girls have flipped houses before and they were not on the other teams' side.

"The girls' full time job is what they have said (finance & uni study)," one Facebook user said. "Flipping houses is a hobby that they do. Out of the four houses they own, they have only sold one. Did the others tell everyone what reno experience they had - I think not!"

"And it’s not like any of them have made an effort to get to know the girls," another pointed out. "They don’t owe the other contestants anything."

"And isn’t Brad qualified in two trades? Does that count as cheating too?" a third said.

"Am I losing my mind, but didn’t Scotty tell them not to say anything about their flipping experience to the other teams? I’m pretty sure he did," someone else said. "In any case, what’s the big deal? So many other contestants have had experience in renovating their properties so I don’t see why the others should be angry.

"Not to mention how many are tradesmen. The girls also haven’t won a room so it’s not like they’re blitzing the competition. Overreaction much?"

Others pointed out that along with a few teams being made of tradies, Ricky is a tradie, and he and Haydn have former Block contestant Duncan Miller as their builder, which would be a huge advantage.

"Some of the others are tradies!! So all fair is you ask me... nothing like making a mountain out of a molehill 🙄," one user said.

"Perhaps if they took the trouble to get to know them and were more welcoming, they would [have] found out by the girls themselves," another suggested.

"To accuse them of lying to their faces is a bit over the top," one viewer added. "Not mentioning something is not the same as lying. It looks like no matter what, the rest of the contestants are dead-set on not liking the girls. None have made an effort to get to know them."
