The Block's Kirsty is copping hate online from fans who think she's Kristy
Viewers have been getting the two Blockheads confused over the past few months.
The Block 2021 contestant Kirsty Lee Akers has revealed she’s been receiving hate on social media from people mistaking her for this year’s ‘villain’ Kristy Beames due to their similar sounding names.
The 36-year-old country music star, who won just over $300,000 on the reality show with her husband Jesse Anderson, told New Idea she’s been sent “many horrible messages” as this year’s season has aired on TV.
“It’s crazy,” Kirsty said. “I get messages and I get tagged in comments on social media. One fan of the show even went onto my actual music page to tell me how nasty and fake I am.”
The season 17 star added that she’s also been mistaken for Kristy while doing interviews promoting her music career and her new band Rhinestoned.
“I did a radio interview about my music in the first fortnight of this year’s series and was asked, ‘What’s it like to be the villain on The Block this year?’,” she recalled. “It’s certainly not a great time to have the name Kirsty, that’s for sure!”

Kirsty went on to say that while she initially felt sorry for Kristy and her husband Brett for copping backlash, she hasn’t enjoyed watching them “stir the pot and play mind games”.
“Everyone can be a bit evil some of the time, but not every single episode!” she remarked.
Kristy and Brett speak out about 'villain' edit
This comes shortly after Kristy and Brett opened up about their time on the show and revealed how they feel about being portrayed as ‘villains’.
“We are really thick-skinned,” Kristy told The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick last week. “The thing is, we knew what we were going in as and we put that in our audition video that we’re game players, we’re competitive, we’ll speak our mind.
“No one edited words in my mouth, I said all of those words. The context potentially may not have been there for the viewers to see, but our whole role in going on the show is we have to speak to the camera. We’re fine about it. We just wear it, we just take it in our stride.”

The couple are set to reunite with their co-stars to film the auction this weekend where this year’s winning team will be decided.
“We’ll be so excited for everyone that makes money,” she shared. “And when we make a little bit more money than them, they should hopefully do that in return.”
