Taylor Swift is the mastermind of Easter eggs.

There's always intent behind what she does (Swifties understand), and that includes the outfits she wears. So we couldn't help but ask ourselves: Has there been intention behind the outfits she chose for this entire NFL season? Sure, she chose Chiefs colors to support boyfriend Travis Kelce and the rest of his team, but is there more to it than that?

We turned to an expert who knows Swift's wardrobe inside, out and backward to look at it all even closer. Sarah Chapelle, author of Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras, has been keeping a close watch on everything Swift wears for years, including every piece of her Chiefs-centric wardrobe this season as the "Lavender Haze" singer, 35, has cheered the team all the way to the Super Bowl. Chapelle has some thoughts about what these outfits have meant and what Swift might step out in come Sunday, Feb. 9, when the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.

"Taylor is an intentional and thoughtful communicator," Chapelle tells PEOPLE exclusively of how the Grammy winner if often sending messages with the things she does. "I think people are most familiar with her storytelling prowess through her lyrics, but I believe it’s important to consider her fashion through that same analytical and emotional lens."

Chapelle adds that for Taylor, "her lyrics and her outfits are her two most effective and powerful communication tools in her arsenal."

"Her music is how her story sounds, but her fashion is how her story looks. She’s incredibly adept at creating iconic visuals that place you in a moment in time — whether that’s because her lyrics are so vivid or because her outfits are so distinct. It is not coincidental that you can look at a photograph of Taylor at any point in her career and be able to pin it to a point in time and, furthermore, attach it to one of her albums."

Chapelle has a point. When you look at any point in Swift's career, you can easily tell which era she's in, thanks to what she's wearing, and often what hairstyle she's rocking, so how does that factor into her NFL wardrobe?

Chapelle's favorite Easter egg that she thinks she spotted this season was at the Oct. 7 game, where the Chiefs took on — and defeated — the New Orleans Saints. For the game, Swift wore a plaid Vivienne Westwood set, looking a bit like a high-fashion Chiefs cheerleader.

The author and Swift expert actually believes that this whole plaid look was an intentional choice to coincide with the Chiefs "Crucial Catch" game, which is an NFL initiative with the American Cancer Society designed to promote cancer early detection and prevention.

"The primary merch of Crucial Catch is plaid — a nod to the many colors of cancer ribbons coming together in support of one unified mission," Chapelle says. "Players are encouraged to wear gear or clothing that expanded on the plaid design on their assigned Crucial Catch day. This felt like Taylor thoughtfully joining in on a really important and meaningful aspect of the NFL’s programming."

Swift has worn a variety of looks this season, choosing everything from logoed-out Louis Vuitton to thrifted Chiefs gear that was picked up from eBay. Her gear has really run the gamut, but overall, Chapelle has noticed that the singer has totally leveled up in comparison to what she wore last season while cheering for the team.

"Her game day fashion has been, overall, much more elevated and luxe than last year’s," Chapelle notes. "We’ve had our first from-the-runway pull in that Chanel ensemble she wore, as well as other head-to-toe spotlights of Louis Vuitton and the aforementioned Vivienne Westwood. It feels like she’s stepping up her game, pun intended."

But does that mean she might go with another high-fashion look for the Super Bowl? The PEOPLE Style team has a few ideas of our own for what she might wear — including another off-the-runway look that's right in line with the designer looks she's been sporting this season.

But the overall consensus from our team and from the Swift expert herself is that there's a good chance Swift might be feeling a bit of the sports superstition that comes with being a fan of the game and wear something that will bring good luck to the team.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we saw references to designers or pieces from this season and perhaps a throwback to last year's Super Bowl as well," Chapelle says of what Swift might wear on Feb. 9 in New Orleans. "Jewelry seems like an easy way of doing that, especially as she has a few sentimental pieces to choose from."

We'll all find out when Swift sets foot in the Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
