Is Tim Riggins coming back to our TV screens? If Taylor Kitsch has anything to say about it, then it's "Texas forever."
Back in November 2024, fans of Friday Night Lights were stunned to hear that a reboot of the hit drama was in the works at Peacock. The original series, which aired from 2006 to 2011 on NBC, followed the lives of those living in the fictional Dillon, Texas, where high school football reigned supreme. Taylor portrayed Tim Riggins, a fullback on the Dillon Panthers who endured a multitude of personal hurdles throughout his time on the show. By the end of the series, the character had gone to jail in place of his brother, had a romantic affair with his best friend's girlfriend and found himself living on his own and continuously getting into trouble.
Despite the adversity Riggins faced, viewers fell in love with the character and have hopes for him to make an appearance on the upcoming reboot. While Taylor has previously spoken out about not wanting to return to the role that made him famous, it seems he may have had a change of heart.
Speaking with People to promote his new Netflix series American Primeval, Taylor revealed what it would take for him to step into Riggins' shoes once again. "If you wanted to put me as a visiting coach with two lines, I probably would do that, just for fun," he told the publication in an article posted on January 9. "I think that would be the most I would do, because I love the way we left it."
Given how viewers did see Riggins help Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) get the East Dillion Lions into football shape throughout Friday Night Lights season 4, Taylor's thoughts on what Riggins is up to wouldn't be too far off. What's more, he shared on SiriusXM's The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw that he actually has been approached about coming back.
"I've been asked and we'll leave it at that," he said. "I'm always flattered. Never say never, but I would come in and do something that... maybe for an episode or something. But I don't wanna go and do the whole thing. I'd go and have fun, but I don't wanna lead an FNL reboot or anything. I love the continuous challenging roles and to keep pushing it."
"I think if you saw me as someone else, you'd be like, 'That's Riggins,'" he added. "I would maybe play an opposing team's coach or something and be on screen for like eight seconds. I would do that."
Well, there you have it! If Taylor is seemingly on board with the idea, maybe it's time to see if Zach Gilford, Scott Porter, Minka Kelly or Jesse Plemons want to get involved too? Heck, we'd be glad if Kyle or Connie Britton graced our screens for just one scene as well.
Only time will tell, and luckily, it's clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
