Tammy Townsend Would be 'Willing' to Return for a Reboot of “Grown Ups” — with 'Hilarious' Jaleel White (Exclusive)
Townsend starred with White on 'Family Matters' from 1995 to 1998 and 'Grown Ups' from 1999 to 2000
Tammy Townsend wouldn’t be opposed to returning to her ‘90s roots.
The 54-year-old actress had a recurring role as Greta McClure in the hit ABC sitcom Family Matters from 1995 to 1998, and after the series ended, she joined its star Jaleel White on his next show, Grown Ups. Although the UPN series only ran for one season, Townsend tells PEOPLE that she enjoyed working with White, now 48.
“That show was really fun. It was a mixed group of folks. You had White folks on there, you had Black people,” she says. “Jaleel is hilarious, and the cast was really funny as well.”
Grown Ups featured White, Dave Ruby and Marissa Ribisi as three recent college graduates who must reckon with adulthood, and Townsend recurred as Marissa, the high school crush of White’s J. Calvin Frazier. The sitcom also had several guest stars over the course of its 22 episodes, including Gabrielle Union, Jenifer Lewis and Paul Levesque.
“That’s probably one [show] that I would be willing to do again,” says Townsend when asked which past credit she’d revisit.
Today, the seasoned actress is known for her role as Kira Cooper — the mother of Zendaya’s K.C. Cooper — on the Disney Channel action-comedy K.C. Undercover, which ran from 2015 to 2018. In addition, she’s recognized by fans for roles in Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar on OWN and the BET+ series Average Joe with Deon Cole.

Townsend will soon appear on Lena Waithe’s Showtime drama The Chi, which coincidentally stars her K.C. Undercover husband, Kadeem Hardison.
“[Kadeem] and I have been girlfriend and boyfriend on a show before, and then we were married. Now we're probably going to end up being grandparents or something on some show because we just keep working together,” she jokes.

Her connection with her K.C. Undercover family runs deep. Townsend appreciates the “camaraderie” of the cast, which includes Zendaya, Hardison, 59, Kamil McFadden, Trinitee Stokes and Veronica Dunne.
“That’s, to me, a rarity in this business when you really like the people you work with,” she says. “Everyone was so down-to-earth. No egos, no divas, no divos, and we loved hanging out with each other.”
