Prisoner follows a principled young prison officer escorting a dangerous, high-value prisoner to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate. Throughout the journey, their relationship twists and turns, with the stakes escalating as the crime syndicate stops at nothing to track them down. Deadline revealed the project several weeks back from Charman, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, and it is being directed by Otto Bathurst (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth). Charman’s previous TV show The Mothership was axed by Netflix but he is working on another, The Choice, starring Suranne Jones.
Rahim was Golden Globe-nominated for his role in BBC-Netflix’s The Serpent along with 2021 movie The Mauritanian. Hoyle stars as Camile in the movie and TV versions of Boiling Point opposite Stephen Graham, while other credits include Amazon’s The Wheel Of Time and Channel 4 hit comedy Big Boys.
Prisoner is produced by Binocular in association with Sky Studios. The series is written and created by showrunner Charman. Haleema Mizra is deputy showrunner and writer. The series is directed by Bathurst, with later episodes directed by Pia Strietmann (Herrhausen – The Banker and The Bomb). Executive producers are Charman, Foz Allan, Bathurst and Adrian Sturges for Sky Studios. Barney Reisz serves as series producer. The series will be available on Sky in the UK and Ireland, with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling international sales.
