Surprising detail in Taylor Swift's Australian tour announcement

Taylor Swift is finally bringing The Eras Tour to Australia.

After months of anticipation, Taylor Swift has finally announced Australian dates for her record-breaking Eras Tour.

The 12-time Grammy Award-winning superstar took to social media on Wednesday morning to share the news that she’ll be touring Australia in February next year with Sabrina Carpenter as her opening act.

Where is she performing?

Taylor will kick off the Australian leg in Melbourne, performing two shows on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 February at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

She will then perform three shows at Sydney's Accor Stadium on Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February.

Her Melbourne performances are set to be the biggest shows of her career, with the MCG being the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere with 100,000 capacity. She will also become the first female to headline the MCG since Madonna in 1993.

Meanwhile, the Accor Stadium in Sydney has a capacity of 83,500, which is where both Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles had their concerts earlier this year.

While the upcoming tour marks Taylor’s first time Down Under since The Reputation Tour in 2018, there are some notable locations missing from the announcement.

This is the first time since Taylor first began touring Australia that she won’t be performing in Brisbane. She will also be skipping Adelaide, which she last visited in 2015 on The 1989 World Tour, and Perth, where she last performed in 2018 on The Reputation Tour.

Kiwi fans will also be disappointed to know that she has also completely skipped New Zealand on this leg of the tour.
