Sunrise's Nat Barr 'unbelievable' win after first-ever Melbourne Cup bet

Sunrise host Natalie Barr has revealed she won big after placing a bet on the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday – her first bet ever.

Nat bet $50 on Verry Elleegant after sports presenter Mark Beretta's mum Joan revealed the horse was her favourite to win the race. Joan shares her racing tips with Sunrise viewers every year.

Nat ended up winning $800 after picking the winning horse on the day.

"Didn't win on Oz Lotto, did win on the Cup, how about you Miss Moneybags, this morning?" Edwina Bartholomew said to Nat.

"Unbelievable, you did better than Oz Lotto yesterday!" Mark joked.

"Oh, not quite two and a half million," Nat said, adding, "No, I was very excited, 800 bucks I won. I got so excited!

"And you know how many people messaged me yesterday and said, 'I followed Berett's mum's tip too!'"

When Kochie asked if Mark had also followed his mum's tip, he said: "Of course, I would never not!"

Nat then explained it took her an hour to work out how to get a TAB account, with Kochie joking that she should have just asked Mark to use one of his "secret" accounts.

"That don't exist," Mark joked.

He then gave Nat the newspaper and told her there's another race on today if she wanted to bet on that, but Edwina scolded him, telling Nat: "No! Take your money out and spend it on something you can keep."

"I don't know how to get it out." Nat said with a laugh.

Kochie joked that it was the start of a new horse racing passion, with Mark joking: "We’re going to have a lot of fun at the pub on a Saturday afternoon."

It comes after Kochie recently learned of some of his co-hosts "icky" nighttime habits.

Last week, Kochie learned he is the only team member to shower before bed, with the topic sparking a fiery debate between the hosts when discussing a list of questions one should ask their partner before getting married.

"'Do you shower before going to bed?', I think that’s a big one,” Kochie said when suggesting other questions to add to the list. "Some people don’t!"

It didn’t take long for Nat, Edwina and Mark to each confess that they only shower in the morning, leaving Kochie horrified.

Kochie went on to explain that he showers both at night and in the morning, which Nat and Eddy deemed a "waste of water".

"No, they’re quick showers and I don’t need to wash my hair," he replied. "I just like to be clean!"

Despite his colleagues taunting him for not being "green" like the rest of them, Kochie continued to be baffled by their showering habits.

"So you go all day and have all the grime and get into your jammies and get into bed dirty?! Do you do a flannel wipe anywhere?" he queried.

However, Nat clarified that she showers before bed if she’s been exercising but not if she’s "had a clean day".

The following day the debate was brought up again when Sunrise consumer correspondent Shaun White joking that a new mattress will last longer if you shower before bed.

"If you weren’t watching us yesterday, I’m the only one on the team who has a shower before bed, which I found a bit icky on behalf of everyone else."
