The film is led by top-selling global rapper René Pérez Joglar (aka Residente), Sasha Calle, Lío Mehiel and Leslie Grace. Joglar took home the Grammy for best musica urbana album on Sunday night, breaking his friend Bad Bunny’s winning streak in the category. Mehiel will next be seen in Luca Guadagnino’s anticipated “After the Hunt” starring Julia Roberts.
“I’m thrilled that In the Summers will find a home at Hulu. It’s the perfect place for the film to reach a wider audience,” Lacorazza told Variety. In addition to the top Sundance honor, the project nabbed the grand jury prize at the Deauville Film Festival and scored a nomination for breakthrough director at last year’s Gotham Awards. Lacorazza and Joglar are both currently nominated for this year’s Independent Spirit Awards — for best first feature and breakthrough performer, respectively.
Callie and Mehiel play older versions of two close-knit siblings who journey each summer break to New Mexico and bond with their charismatic yet capricious father (Joglar). The film explores sexuality, heartbreak, addiction and ties that bind to devastating and bittersweet effect.
Producers on “In the Summers” include Alexander Dinelaris, Rob Quadrino, Janek Ambros, Fernando Rodriguez-Vila, Jan Suter, Daniel Tantalean, Lynette Coll, Sergio Alberto Lira, Cristóbal Güell and Cynthia Fernandez De La Cruz.
