Anyone who exists at the intersection of scary movie lover, Lucy Liu stan, and Julia Fox follower (aka myself) should keep an eye on Presence—the latest horror release from director Steven Soderbergh. Not only does the movie boast Julia and Lucy in its cast, but after its premiere back at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Presence was met with critical praise, and the company Neon promptly picked up the distribution rights.
The film follows a family that moves into a sprawling suburban dream home, only to find out that it's occupied by a supernatural spirit (classic mishap). Julia Fox plays the family's real estate agent Cece, and in a fun little marketing move, Neon set up ads for the realtor around NYC. There's also a fake realty website for the character that you should check out—should you be interested in purchasing a haunted house anytime soon.

So What is Presence About?
Lucy Liu plays Rebecca Payne, wife to Chris Sullivan's character Chris and the mother of two complicated teens. The Paynes move into their new home amidst a myriad of family issues—their daughter Chloe is grieving the death of a close friend, while their son Ty has a bit of a hard-to-manage violent streak. Unfortunately, the big move isn't providing the family with any sort of solace—there's a mysterious threat that exists within their new abode—one that's only referred to as a "presence" throughout the movie, and it's set to challenge the family's peace of mind, and the strength of their bond.
When Can I See Presence?
Attendees of last year's Sundance Film Festival attendees got to check it out last January, but Presence will be released to the greater public on January 24, 2025.

How Can I Watch Presence at Home?
Understandably, you might prefer to watch this fright fest from the comfort of your own home. If you opt for that, you likely be able to stream Presence on Hulu or Apple TV+. There's an official "coming soon" page for the movie available on Apple TV+, but NEON has had Hulu stream a number of their movies in the past, so it's still TBD which platform this will be available on. (Maybe both?) The official streaming release date hasn't been announced, but typically Apple TV+ gets movies a few weeks after their original theatrical run, meaning you can expect this on their platform in early spring of this year.
