Something Fishy Is Happening With the New Elimination Twist on 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 17

Let's go round two! After the Squirrel Games, Werk Room entrances and several tap dance routines last week, our 14 queens are back for part two of the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 premiere.

Episode 2 was basically a copy and paste of last week's episode with the remaining seven newbies competing in their own version of the talent show challenge, the Rate-A-Queen twist returning, and the top two queens lip syncing against one another for the win. Unlike last week, however, flop pop star Katy Perry has been replaced by culturally relevant rapstress Doechii and we're actually getting an elimination (at least supposedly).

Last week the seven non-participating queens ranked Acacia Forgot's as the worst talent show act, which meant she was set to lip sync against whichever of this week's talent show performers got placed in the bottom by the Rate-A-Queen twist. The queens competing this week were Lexi Love, Kori King, Lana Ja'Rae, Sam Star, Onya Nurve, Hormona Lisa and Crystal Envy.

However, not everything went quite according to plan (or perhaps it did). Here's what happend in Episode 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 including who went home:

Who was in the bottom of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 2?

Hormona Lisa

The writing was on the wall a bit for Hormona "I was hand-selected by RuPaul" Lisa. Whether it was due to jealousy or her being slightly annoying (or both), the queens seemed primed to hate her act, no matter what it was. When she opted for a standup routine (which has always been a talent show kiss of death), it was all too easy to rate her last. This outcome was especially tantalizing for Acacia Forgot, given that she'd be lip syncing against the Week 2 loser and Hormona certainly isn't a stunt queen. A Marie Antoinette runway that earned the ire of Michelle Visage was just the icing on the (let them eat) cake.

However, it was after Hormona lost that things started to get a little fishy.

Who was eliminated in the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 2?

No one. After Acacia Forgot was proclaimed the winner of the lip sync, it appeared that Hormona Lisa would become the Porkchop Queen of Season 17. However, then RuPaul revealed a new twist that is basically just the Season 14 "It's Chocolate" twist in a new candy wrapper. Enter the Badonka Dunk Tank with Michelle Visage perched atop.

Starting in Episode 2, each week the eliminated queen will have the chance to pull one of ten levers (supposedly) connected to the dunk tank. Two of those levers will dunk Michelle and the queen will be saved. The other eight levers are blanks which will eliminate the queen. However, as anyone with two eyes can see, the levers are simply plopped on stage and are in no way, shape or form actually connected to the dunk tank. Which basically means that production can opt to dunk Michelle whenever the hell they feel like it.

For me, it seemed a wee bit fishy to have the first pull dunk Michelle, which conveniently starts the season off with a splash and now leaves the forthcoming queens with a 1/9 chance to save themselves, which is basically how the chocolate bar worked back in Season 14. So call me a skeptic, but I think it was preordained that whichever lever Hormona Lisa pulled (and also licked?) was going to save her. As Alyssa Edwards would say, "Rigga Morris Girl!"

From the moment I heard "roller skates" I knew we had a winner on our hands. Lexi's roller derby talent show number and TV screen runway look bumped her into the top two with Crystal Envy, and she quickly gobbled up the pageant queen for the win. Miss Love is one to watch.

What is the Rate-A-Queen twist?

The Rate-A-Queen twist, which premiered last season, has returned for Season 17. In this twist rather than being placed in the top or bottom by the judges, the queens rank each other and are scored accordingly. However, in Season 16 the two groups of queens each rated themselves where in Season 17 they are rating the other group. It remains unclear if it will only be used in the premiere or will play a larger role in the season.

What is the Badonka Dunk Tank twist?

The new twist for Season 17 is the Badonka Dunk Tank, which allows the eliminated queen to pull one of ten levers attached to a dunk tank. Two of those levers will send Michelle Visage tumbling down into a dunk tank, which will save the drag queen. Eight of those levers will do nothing and the queen will be sent packing. This week, Hormona Lisa pulled one of the correct levers which now leaves a 1/9 chance for the next nine eliminations.
