Shane Gillis’ ‘Tires’ Ineligible For Golden Globes Nominations Due To Run Length

EXCLUSIVE: Shane Gillis will, unfortunately, not be winning a Golden Globe for his comedy series Tires after the organizers declared it too short for eligibility.

The Globes, via accountancy firm, sent a note out to members noting that Tires “does not meet the 150-minute requirement” for consideration for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

The six-part series has a total run time of 132 minutes, which is below the threshold that was introduced nearly a decade ago.

“A recurring series with a total running time of at least 150 program minutes aired during the qualifying year,” it states in its rules.

Filippo Puglisi-Alibrandi, a partner at KPMG, told members, “Please be advised that Tires is no longer eligible for consideration for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy as it does not meet the 150-minute requirement. This also means Shane Gillis is not eligible for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. As a result, please note Tires and Shane Gillis will be removed from these categories in the online ballot.”

It’s a blow for Gillis and his co-creators Steve Gerben and John McKeever, who were hoping that it could nab a nomination for the event, which is held on Sunday January 5.

The series premiered in May 2024 and was quickly snapped up for a second season.

Gillis stars in Tires, and serves as writer, co-creator and executive producer. In the first season, Will (Gerben), the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain, attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis).

Tires also stars Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias, with guest appearances by Andrew Schulz.

The series is directed by McKeever. Gillis, Gerben and McKeever are the creators, writers and executive producers. Brandon James is an executive producer for Rough House; Brian Stern and Kenneth Slotnick are executive producers for AGI Entertainment Media & Management. Becky Astphan is an executive producer.

Tires is the second production from Gillis and McKeever’s production company, Dad Sick Productions, following Gillis’ stand-up special Beautiful Dogs.
