This year’s season of Dessert Masters has just wrapped up after weeks of sweet surprises and mouthwatering masterpieces. Sunday night’s finale saw three of the country’s best pastry chefs competing for the coveted title and $100,000 prize money, with John Demetrios, Christy Tania and former MasterChef winner Emelia Jackson going head to head.

The trio were tasked with preparing a dessert inspired by ‘iconic Australian colours’ for judges Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon, as well as season one contestants Adriano Zumbo, Kirsten Tibballs and inaugural winner Gareth Whitton.

While all three contestants plated up show-stopping dishes, John was ultimately crowned the season two champion with a score of 38 out of 40.

While she made it to the finale of the second season of Dessert Masters, Emelia Jackson almost competed in season one.

The two-time MasterChef contestant and 2020 winner previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that she was invited to take part in the show last year but had to turn it down.

“I was asked to be on it and I did say yes and it was all systems go until they told me that filming was starting on my due date of my second [child],” she revealed.

However, Emelia admitted that she was ultimately glad she wasn’t a part of the season after seeing the extraordinary cast, which included her season 12 MasterChef co-stars Reynold Poernomo and Jess Liemantara.

“They didn’t really explain the concept, they just said, ‘Are you keen to do this? It’s a dessert one, right up your alley’, and I said, ‘Yep, of course, sign me up’,” she recalled. “And then when I saw who was on it I was like, thank god I didn’t go on that, I would’ve been smashed to a pulp!”
