Selena Gomez Grows Emotional After Golden Globes 2025 Run-in with Salma Hayek: ‘I Looked Up to Her’
"It's actually the sweetest thing ever," the two-time nominee said
Selena Gomez is feeling the love!
On Sunday, Jan. 5, the actress, 32, got emotional on the Variety and Entertainment Tonight red carpet pre-show for the 82nd Golden Globes after a sweet run-in with Salma Hayek.
Gomez is nominated for two awards at the event: best performance by a female actor in a supporting role for Emilia Pérez and best performance by a female actor in a television series for Only Murders in the Building.
Dressed in a Prada off-the-shoulder baby blue gown with a diamond necklace, the actress proclaimed on the red carpet that she "hadn’t taken any pictures yet" when Hayek pulled her aside.
According to Variety correspondent Marc Malkin, Hayek, 58, was about to do an interview but gave her spot to Gomez so she could "have her moment."
"It's actually the sweetest thing ever,” Gomez said of Hayek, growing visibly emotional. "I love her. I looked up to her. She’s my dad's crush."
Then, in a show of camaraderie, Gomez’s television co-stars Steve Martin, 79, and Martin Short, 74, promptly crashed the interview.

"She's all dressed up," Short said of Gomez, before teasing her for her stylish bob. "I think the hair is too swooped on one side."
The interviewer joked, "Is he always this mean?"

Martin jumped in to say that Short was bragging about his own hairdo on the car ride to the award show. "All the way in the car, kept talking about his hair," the comedian said. "How much better his hair is than mine."
Getting the conversation back on track, Gomez said, "We're excited we're nominated and that's the best thing ever.”

"Just to be nominated is the honor," Short added.
In December 2024, Gomez reacted to her double nomination with a video on her Instagram Stories, in which gasped and buried her face in her hands after her name was called in the movies category.
"I don’t even know what to write. I’m so proud of @zoesaldana and I am so grateful and honored @goldenglobes," Gomez captioned the video, shouting out her Emilia Pérez costar and fellow nominee Zoe Saldaña.
