Sara Evans' 3 Kids: All About the Country Singer’s Son Avery and Daughters Olivia and Audrey
The 'Born to Fly' singer's son and daughters have shared the stage with her for special projects
Sara Evans is proud of her kids: Avery, Olivia and Audrey.
The country singer became a mom for the first time when she and her then-husband, Craig Schelske, welcomed their son, Avery, on Aug. 21, 1999. The couple's daughter Olivia was born on Jan. 22, 2003, followed by daughter Audrey on Oct. 6, 2004.
Sara and Schelske divorced in 2007, and her current husband, Jay Barker, stepped in as a father figure after they married in 2008. With their new stepdad came four stepsiblings, and the large blended family moved into a home in Birmingham, Ala.
Growing up, Sara's three children joined her on the road, which she believes influenced their similar traits. “We always say I got your brain, Livy got your heart, and Audrey got your personality,” Avery said on Sara’s podcast, Diving In Deep with Sara Evans, in October 2024.
Like the "I Keep Looking" vocalist, they love music and have their mom's support — as long as they're willing to give it their all. “It’s something that you have to teach your children from an early age: to work hard for what they want,” she told PEOPLE in August 2017. “You have to go out and get it.”
After making their musical debuts as part of The Barker Family Band in spring 2019, Sara's son and daughters pursued their own careers in music and beyond. Still, they carve out time to see one another, including during the festive holiday season and for fun Hollywood moments.
Here’s everything to know about Sara Evans’ kids: Avery, Olivia and Audrey.
Avery Jack Evans, 25
Sara welcomed her son, Avery Jack Evans, on Aug. 21, 1999.
From a young age, Avery was a talented musician, but he also enjoyed football.
“You played sports growing up, and I thought you were a great athlete,” Sara shared on an October 2024 episode of her podcast, Diving In Deep with Sara Evans, during which Avery was a guest.
Throughout his life, he witnessed his country artist mom pursue her passion, and despite her busy schedule, they remained close.
When he was 18, Avery inspired Sara to write the heartfelt song “Letting You Go" about the experience of watching children become adults.
“Every parent will tell you when they get to that point in their child’s life — especially their firstborn — that you just sit there and go, ‘Where did the time go?” she told PEOPLE in July 2017. “He’s a man. But he’s still my baby and in some ways, it’s devastating.”
Still, Sara was excited to see what her son would achieve and “watch him blossom as a musician himself,” calling the experience “such a joy.”
After high school, Avery chose to focus on music full-time, which included being a touring guitarist for his mom and other big artists. He’s also supported his sister, Olivia in creating her own music, including the song "Mine."
“We crowded my small studio space and drank wine while Jazz and Livy sang parts out to me to play,” he recalled on Instagram about the process in February 2024. “One of the most fun creative moments of my life so far.”
That same year, he announced on his mom’s podcast that a three-song indie country record EP was coming in early 2025. Most recently, he revealed that his debut single, "Paloma," is set to release in early 2025.
When it comes to her son, Sara has no shortage of praise.
“Avery, you are so unbelievably amazing as a human being!” she wrote about him in August 2023 for his birthday. “You are so kind and generous and such a man of honor! I am so proud of you and so grateful God allowed me to be your mom!”
Olivia Margaret Evans, 21
Sara welcomed her second child, daughter Olivia Margaret Evans, on Jan. 22, 2003.
Olivia always showed an interest in music. “I’m the middle child, and I’m very much an introvert, but I love being on stage,” she said on a May 2024 episode of her mom’s Diving In Deep with Sara Evans podcast.
While Olivia wanted to get started immediately, she now appreciates that her mother urged her to take her time learning her craft. “Ever since I was 11 years old, I would ask, 'Can I make music yet?' ” she told PEOPLE in July 2021. “I know I needed to grow up and learn a lot of things and all of that.”
However, unlike her brother, Olivia took more inspiration from the style of artists like Beyoncé than Sara's country music vibe.
"I had always known, at least for the past 10 years, that I was going to probably do pop music, R&B music, something like that," she added. "And while I waited, I grew as a singer and a performer."
In 2021, she released her first five-song EP, and even though it differs from her mother's work, Olivia still values her opinion greatly.
"The minute I would get a demo back, I would send it to mom instantly because she's the first one I would want to hear feedback from — honest feedback," she explained. "She was my biggest help and support during all of this."
Sara was also her daughter’s biggest cheerleader in November 2023, when Olivia got engaged to model Blake Irwin.
“I am beyond grateful to God for this and we LOVE Blake already as our son!” the mom of three wrote on Instagram at the time. “We were so blessed to have been together with his family when he popped the question!”
Sara was also in attendance when Olivia picked out her wedding dress in August 2024. “Can’t wait to watch this princess walk down the aisle to her Prince Charming!” she captioned a mirror selfie of the two on the special occasion.
While Olivia is grateful for her mom's support, she doesn’t want to lean on her reputation in the music industry for anything.
“I’m just doing the independent thing, I’m not signed anywhere, I don’t have a publishing deal, I don’t have a management company,” she said on Diving In Deep in May 2024. “I’m doing every single thing by myself.”
Audrey Elizabeth Evans, 20
Sara’s youngest child, Audrey Elizabeth Evans, was born on Oct. 6, 2004.
“I’m the baby of the family,” Audrey shared on an August 2024 episode of her mom’s Diving In Deep with Sara Evans podcast. “Growing up, I was probably the crazy child.”
Audrey shared that she dropped out of high school, and her mom was okay with her decision because she had a plan.
“You immediately started with a career at a young age, so there was really no reason to worry about it,” Sara explained. “You’re more successful now than if you would have done all of that.”
These days, Audrey is working as a personal assistant for baking influencer Samantha Bauchmann — a job she “loves.” She’s also begun making videos of her own, and her mom hypes her up every step of the way.
“Your TikTok is so unique and funny, you are so popular because you’re insane, and I love it,” Sara shared.
When she’s not at work, Audrey enjoys riding horses and spending time with her boyfriend, John Headley.
“I think he should join [the group chat soon] because I’m all in for him,” Sara shared about her daughter's beau.
For her part, Audrey is in no rush to settle down and have kids. When asked about possibly getting married and starting a family, Audrey responded, “Not anytime soon, sorry!”
In March 2024, Audrey tried acting for the first time in her mom’s “Pride” music video. “It was definitely a challenge to put myself in those shoes,” she told PEOPLE of the project. “But overall I had so much fun.”
