Prince Harry set to miss major coronation event: 'Such a shame'

The Duke of Sussex's visit will be 'fleeting'.

Prince Harry is set to make an appearance at his father’s coronation on May 6, but it is believed his trip will be short. His eldest son Archie’s fourth birthday falls on the same day, so the Duke of Sussex will likely miss “a key coronation event” in his haste to get back to California.

According to royal commentator Omid Scobie, Archie’s birthday also “played a factor” in Meghan Markle’s decision not to attend the coronation with their two children.

In a tweet, he said that Harry's trip is understood to be “fairly quick”, with the royal only making an appearance for the main coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

This means he won’t get to brush shoulders with high-profile talent performing at the coronation concert, as it takes place on May 7.

The royal family have confirmed Katy Perry, Take That and Lionel Richie will be performing, and it will be taking place on the Windsor Castle grounds.

It’s set to be a big affair, with several locations in the UK also hosting a series of illuminations, projections, lasers and drone displays as part of “Lighting Up the Nation”.

The Mirror reported that Prince Harry’s visit is likely to be “fleeting”, with palace sources claiming he won’t even manage to visit any charities he works with.

“After much back and forth, Harry said that he would be returning for the King’s coronation but it will only be a fleeting visit,” the insider said.

“Organisers have been told Harry won’t be attending the concert with the rest of the royal family, which is a shame as it will be such a spectacular event.”

However, the publication claims that Prince Harry will return to the UK this year, and his visit will likely take place in the summer. At this stage, no further details have been revealed.
