Love is in the air at the Invictus Games!

British athlete and army veteran James Cairns surprised his girlfriend of four years, Hannah Wild, by proposing following his wheelchair basketball game on Feb. 9. Cairns took the microphone and dropped to one knee in the middle of the court, drawing cheers from his teammates. She said yes, and the couple were joined by their 2-year-old son, Arthur — who missed the big moment because he was asleep, according to Hello! magazine.

Prince Harry reacted to the news, telling Hello!: "At Invictus, we provide a space for healing, outstanding athleticism, and in James and his new fiancée’s case, even if you don’t leave with a medal, you could leave with a ring!"

Cairns, who was shot in the leg during a deployment in Afghanistan, told the outlet that Hannah "pushed me and gave me the driving force to apply for the Invictus Games" after knowing "seven people who died by suicide after battling PTSD" in the last year.

"Invictus has been my driving force because I've been struggling with my mental health," he shared.

Hannah added, "It's the best place that James could have done it because it means so much to him."

When asked about their thoughts on the Duchess of Sussex, 43, attending, an onlooker in Vancouver recently told PEOPLE: "I think it’s great that she’s coming. There is a lot of speculation about them and their marriage, but this reinforces one thing to me, at least — there is no separation. It looks like they present a united front when it comes to matters they both care about."

Prince Harry, 40, founded the adaptive sporting competition for sick, injured and wounded service personnel and veterans after returning from Afghanistan with injured allies and witnessing the U.S. Armed Forces’ Warrior Games.

The Duke of Sussex's mission helps them "feel seen and heard and cared about," outgoing CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, Dominic Reid, tells PEOPLE.
