Patrick Wachsberger, Legendary Join Forces To Launch Film Production & Sales Outfit 193

Movie vet Patrick Wachsberger and Legendary Entertainment have created a new film production and sales banner, 193. Wachsberger will be CEO of the new entity. It will be a standalone JV for Legendary and will complement Legendary Pictures, led by Chair of Worldwide Production Mary Parent.

193 draws its name from the number of territories that buy film rights. It will develop and produce its own slate and work with third-party producers and financiers, handling international distribution for completed films. It will also provide capital and be across territory sales for early-stage projects.

Since 2019, Wachsberger has been a partner in the TV-focused Picture Perfect Federation, a JV between him and Pascal Breton’s Federation. He will continue to work on the existing Picture Perfect slate and look for opportunities for that entity to work with 193.

Former Chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Wachsberger joined the studio in 2012 after it bought Summit Entertainment. He won a Best Picture Academy Award for producing CODA.

“Given the strong global demand for high-quality independent films, along with the input of Legendary’s world-class creative and production team, we are in a fantastic position for growth,” he said. “193 will bring exceptional stories from great filmmakers to audiences around the world.”

Josh Grode, Legendary CEO, has known Wachsberger since the Summit days. “We are excited to be partnering with him in this new stand-alone venture and know that 193 will be a leader in bringing top-quality films to markets around the world,” he said. “This is an exciting moment for Legendary, as we continue to build on strong momentum and further diversify our film and TV portfolio.”

Legendary’s Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer Blair Rich will oversee the marketing for its 193 projects. The newly-minted outfit says it will have a presence at the major sales markets but it’s unclear yet what the EFM slate will comprise.
