“He’s an incredibly modern man, so he has never had an issue with being married to an alpha woman, God bless him,” Morissette told Self of Souleye in 2019. “His mom held down two full-time jobs, his dad stayed home. So there’s nothing unfamiliar about [our situation for him].”
In the same interview, the “Ironic” singer explained that she and Souleye work hard on “provisioning,” meaning that they work together on figuring out who’s going to provide what in the relationship—tradition be damned. “It might look like: ‘Actually, just, if you don't mind, I'm going to verbally ventilate for three hours,’ that's a huge provision. He's with the kids right now, that's a huge provision,” she explained. “Especially around pregnancy, if I need something at any given time, if at 4 p.m. I need probiotics, he's, like ‘I'll be right back.’ So that's amazing.”

Alanis Morissette is married to Mario Treadway, a.k.a. Souleye. Like Morissette, Souleye is a musician. He began performing as a hip-hop artist in high school and released his first album in 2002. His most recent album, Disguised as Tomorrow, debuted in 2023.

Morissette met Souleye in 2009 at a meditation retreat in California, which the MC attended with a mutual friend. “I would date people, and there would be something about me that would hit a brick wall with whomever I was sitting across from,” Morisette explained during a 2014 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “And with Souleye, when I first met him, I could see that there was this limitlessness to where we could go. … I was even a little scared thinking, ‘Oh, God, I’m going to be going into territories that are outside of my jurisdiction and outside of my comfort zone if I hang out with this person.
